Is it bad for your yorkies hair... to dress them everyday. I brush Penny out every night when I take her clothes off, but was wonderng if it could hurt her fur. |

First of all yorkies don't have fur, they have hair just as close to human hair as possible. Yes, over brushing can be more harmful. Over brushing can break and thin out coat. Never brush a dry or dirty coat. By the way your Penny is adorable. |
Thanks, but are the clothes bad for her to wear everyday? |
I would say that if you're trying to grow a show coat, you shouldn't put them in clothes, but if not, I see no reason not to dress them if they like it. Mine get dressed all the time. My yorkie has silky hair, and we have no problems with his coat. When I pull out his harness or little shirts, he goes nuts!! He loves wearing clothes. |
I noticed when I dress my fur-babies they tend to mat up behind their arms in no time...I know that is definately not good for their coats...but again, if you keep a puppy cut or not planning to show, it doesn't really matter...:animal36 |

Once my dogs have been championed and finished their show career they are cut down and sweaters are put on them in the winter and sometimes pj's on those cold nights. Well that was when I lived in Texas, but since I now live in Southern California, I don't think that will be necessary. |

Anyways-i put clothes on Avie, but i dont plan on showing her. If you dont, either-i assume its completely fine-you seem like you take good care of her hair anyways-so i dont think you will have a problem. <3 |

Kidding aside, I was born and raised in Southern California and just recently moved back after 14 years in Texas......I use to dream of Southern California Summers and hated the heat in Texas.....I must have brought it with me. I remember maybe 1 or 2 weeks in August (during hurricane season) where it would get hot here.....my gosh it's been horrible since we got here. I call back to Texas and it's in the eighties. I take my yorkie crew outside for potty breaks and they just stand their dazed. |
haha. :p i know, i need to take Avie to the doggie beach!! where in CA do you live?? |

I don't dress mine everyday, only because I don't want them to tear up their clothes. |
I'm sorry to hear about your mother, Mary...My thoughts are with you and your family... |

I dress Lacy every day. The clothes do tend to break her hair off some but not that bad. I can just see on her back that the hair kindof has split ends. Just make sure you brush and comb your yorkie after you take the clothes off to get any tangles out. |
Sorry about your mom, Mary. It has been around 110 degrees out this way for a few days. If your dog mats in the same place consisently--the armpits, I have the groomer (or if your do it yourself) thin the area where the mats are occuring. I agree with the others that if you are showing, your dogs need to be naked. |
