Thinking of moving to Australia Hi guys, I haven't been around much recently. Have been busy with work and a recent death in the family :( Anyway, my fiance and I have been seriously talking of a move to Australia. There are so many brilliant work opportunities over there for him. I have always wanted to live there so I am quite excited about it. Now one dilema is our little Yorkie Sadie. We would obviously love to take her with us. She is quite nervous and we are worried about the journey for her. Have any of you taken your dogs on long haul flights? Can they be given anything to calm them etc?? also would we be able to see her during the stop over in Singapor?? I look forward to hearing from you all. |
Australia won't let her in the country without a long long quarantine of months. I don't know about Singapore. |
The info I read today said that it is a 30 day qurantine in Sydney, where we would go. As for Singapore it is just a quick stop. We wouldn't be leaving the airport. It's just for a transfer. |
These may be of some help to you: http://www.pettransporter.com/australia.htm http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/F...importing.html |

Hawaii was like Australia until very recently - it took months there before. Now you can get them out with a ton of footwork and paperwork done in advance in a minimum of 5 days. |
The vet does have things they can take to calm down. Would she have to go through a quarantine? |
Thanks for the links, they were really helpful. We would be travelling to Australia from the UK. From there it says it's 30 days. I have found a transport company so I am going to email them for more info. I will be getting my little boy rabies jabbed in the next few weeks so he would be able to come too. |
Let me know how everything works out. I have also been considering australia. I loved it when I was there for a week. How are you going about finding employment? Best of luck to you! Lisa |
Australia Hello, I just recently lived in Australia for about a year. Australia is not that dog friendly if you live in the cities. When I went apartment shopping, most of the buildings did not allow dogs. I rarely saw dogs walking on the streets. I lived in Brisbane, but it was the same in Syndey and Melbourne. I guess if you are planning to buy a house then you wouldn't have a problem. Happy Moving! |
