Betty Almost Died! 3 Attachment(s) Omg! It was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo scary. I read the sticky about Dog CPR and choking, but I just forgot everything when it happened. So I'm eating some dinner, like some Boston-market, homestyle food type of thing, and I had a little peice of rotissere chicken and Betty was begging so I decided to give her a little peice with no skin or anything. So, I give her a little peice and I go back to eating and Betty is standing next to me, and I look down at her to admire how cute she is and I notice her like, sticking her tongue out over and over, like she's clenching her throat trying to swallow. And she keep doing it and putting her head to the floor like she was getting ready to throw up but she wasn't. So I panick a little, because she has like, two teeth in her mouth and the four long vampire ones. So I pick her up, and I think abotu it EVERY day since reading the sticky, and I say, ``Betty, are you choking?`` and she is going crazy now, and I'm screaming and my sister yells like, ``what's going on?!`` and I go, ``Betty is choking!`` and she comes running and we are panicking, but I don't know what to do, I can't get online, sign on and everything. Everything just left my head. And she opens her mouth WIDE, like the peak of a yawn and is stuffing her front paws down her throat and shaking her head. So I stick my finger down her throat, and she's still struggling, and still stuffing her hands down her throat so I stick my finger down her throat again and I really can't feel anything, so I just try to push it down into her stomach, soI stick my finger REALLY far down her throat and she stops panicking and closes her mouth and I put her nose close to my lip and I can feel her breathing and then I put her down and she drinks a million gallons of water and now is playing like nothing happened. So YTers, I SAY TO YOU, IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY THEN PRINT OUT THE STICKY! PRINT IT! BECAUSE YOU REALLY WON'T REMEMBER IT! AND DON'T GIVE YOUR BABY ANYTHING HARD WHEN THEY'RE LOSING THEIR BABY TEETH. All betty has are her two front teeth and I thought it was soft enough for her. Pictures of Betty the survivor: |

Betty is very fortunate and also lucky to have such a well-informed mommy who knew what to do and reacted quickly. |
I am so glad Ms. Betty is ok now. I know it must have been very scary for you. Where is this sticky??? I need to print it. Because Im telling you - I just pray I am able to hit #2 on the phone (speed dial for my vet) before I got into severe panic mode and pass out. Big hugs to you and Ms. Betty! |
OMG that is soooooooo scarry.....I am just so glad that you knew what to do and that she is alright.....I would still have her vet check her out...sometimes choking can cause swelling afterwards in the throat from the irritation...not only in humans but animals too.... |

Wow, Im so glad she is ok, You must of been so scared, I had to stick my fingers down my sisters maltese once and i was scared to, she panicked and i reacted the only way i knew how, he was ok also, but we were shook up for a while, the cpr for dogs is a life saver:) hugs to you & betty |
Omg so glad to hear little Betty is okay! Good thinking on the CPR and Choking advice!!! |
Oh that little face! My heart was just breaking as I read your story - and I am SO relieved at the good outcome. IN A PINCH, everyone just remember that "dislodging" is all about forcing air/pressure from the torso toward the throat. So, if you can't get to instructions, squeeze your dog's chest in a "quick" thrust or lay him on the ground and *push* the air up and out in a quick thrust. Scary! |
GOOD JOB MOM! But I cant imagine how terrified you must have been. That god little Betty is ok, thanks to you. |
awww Im sooo glad she is ok!! She is soooo cute!!! My dog choked twice that I can remember ... I panicked the first time sooooo bad... luckily my mom was over and picked him up and shoved her fingers under his ribs and pushed up... it came FLYING out!! THANK GOD! The second time I did something similar to that. Now I make sure I break up things into smaller pieces before giving to him ... he is the type to inhale things whole! LOL |
Oh my, thank God she's OK! Whew!! I had to do that once to my Chihuahua and the memory still lingers, believe me. Very scary. I'm glad you helped her. |
That was such a close call. Thank heavens you looked down again and saw she was in distress. You done good mom. Be proud of yourself, you saved Bette's life, CRP or not. Good job. Thank's for reminding us to read the sticky and print it. I will do that now. Hugs to Betty from Buddy and I. |
