There is no way that I would support The Hunt Corp and their miserable way to make a living by shipping puppies from puppy mills across the country to be sold in Pet Shops where this very same problem is happening every day until it can be stopped. Bruce's Mom your heart is in the right place but try like I do when I see a sad situation to picture 100 pups all huddled together sick rather than the just one. I'll tell you though even when I go in a shop like that and I see them without a toy, I raise my voice so all can hear by saying "How can you treat these tiny pups this way, they have nothing solid for footing and not even a toy to play with....if I see runny eyes I mention that too" I bet I have stopped a few sales. Write your representatives in Congress and tell them how you feel and tell them this is getting completely out of hand. I also emailed my rep. here in Ohio, my next vote for him would depend on how he votes on this bill that is pending. I heard from him immediately and he has promised to do all he can. We'll see. I guess before this thread, looking at my signature pretty much told you how I feel. |
UPDATE: So I did not purchase the puppy...But my boss did! Apparently he could not take it any longer and broke before I did...Good thing too because I felt morally culpable if I did, and he is in a better position to afford medical care... The little guy had severe parasites which left him dehydrated. He was malnourished, and he has pnuemonia...He is being treated for all these things at a local vet hospital (still) and is expected to survive, however it appears there may be some irregularities with his heart that could cause ongoing problems. As we speak he is in a humidified crate and is doing much much better!!! Starting to get up, be alert, and show signs of playfulness...All of this (including his purchase price) has cost my boss something to the tune of $4500+ dollars and counting...The poor little guy cannot be brought home yet, due to the other dogs in the house not being able to be exposed to him... As for the store, they have no puppies in stock right now. The city that runs animal control says they have been inspected a number of times and with no problems...Somehow I doubt this. So basically my new efforts will be at seeing what can be done by alerting some of the rescue/animal rights groups in the area... By the way the little pups new name is Zues! |
Yeah!!! Give your boss a hug from me. :) |
Horray for your wonderful boss. What a boss you have! What a happy ending to a very sad story. You can be his godmother since it was you that found this little one in trouble. I can't believe the pet store can not be fined at least with all the info from the vet that is now docummented. The laws just don't care, they just don't. Here is a perfect example how the store was caught selling a sick puppy and no one cares. Very troubling. Do you ever really think puppy mills and back yard breeders can be stopped.? No way and here's a perfect example why they can't be. I could just scream from the lack of caring. Well on the bright side prayer's coming for a complete recovery for little Zues. Post pictures when you can. Hugs to your boss. |
I would buy him, get him well then sell him to someone who will take better care of him, someone who is willing to let you check up on him from time to time. Even if you don't get all your money back at least you will have peace of mind. |
What a happy ending to this story...glad that the little guy Zeus found a home. Definite ((Hugs)) to your boss for taking him in and of course hats off to you for being such a caring individual. |
Guess I should have read the rest of the story. Basically, you kinda did what I suggested anyhow. I sure hope he improves. |
Boy does that infuriate me!!!!!!!!!!! I do believe however, that your boss will be reimursed for atleast the sale price of the pup in regard to the med. bills. I am so freakin' #@*%! WHERE did this pup come from and WHAT are all the OTHERS going through (breeder-wise)???!!!!?????? Please update.....I can't even stand to keep typing right this second......    |
Well a happy ending for the poor little guy. How much will the pet shop reimburse, if any? I hope Zeus has a long, happy and healthy life.:) |
If that pet shop coughs up it's part, I will be happier but that boss of yours has a heart of gold. Hope this little guy continues to improve. :aimeeyork |
OMGosh! I have goosbumps! What a wonderful and sweet soul your boss is! Thank God someone saved that baby! WOOOOOOOHOOOOOOO! |
I have read all your replies and I think everyone that has replied is correct in their own way. I think you should do what your heart tells you to. If you can sell him or keep him this little guy needs help! My prayers are with you. Good Luck |
I guess i didnot scroll all the way down. What a great boss and a happy ending for Zeus. I know he has a great home now.:) |
This thread has brought tears to my eyes..I am soooo happy that your boss bought him and invested so much into a pup that might not have even lived..how cool is he/she?? Terrific news and I hope the puppy has a loooong healthy life.. Dawn |
I read the first page and then went right to the last to see how the little baby was. I love your boss! Sometimes we get caught between a rock and a hard place, and, as much as I don't believe in buying pet store dogs, I would have bought him too. It's do you support this living thing, or puppy mills? The only right answer lies in your heart. Everybody has their own opinion in a case like this, but I'm so glad he's been saved. You'll see - something bad will happen to that store. Karma and YT prayers are very strong! |
Your boss just earned another feather in his/her wings...I too would have broken down and paid the price for the puppy...regardless...he needed help. The puppy is already here and, as someone mentioned before, why should it have to pay the price for our moral stand against puppy mills? I say take care of the ones that are already here...they didn't choose to be born so why let them die on principal...but educate against puppy mills along the way and try to find a way to stop them. I have no doubt that my first Yorkie came from a BYB or puppy mill situation and we had 12 years of medical bills but in those 12 years Boog gave us more love than we could measure or repay and there's no way I would change one day of that. |
edited. should have read all posts before i sent this. sorry. my bad. |
Thank God for good hearted people like your boss- may God bless him!! This whole pet store/puppy mill thing just makes me LIVID!! I feel just sick over the poor babies that are suffering- I want so bad to rescue them, yet I do understand it is helping these wicked wicked people that deserve to rott in h*** continue to breed ,breed, breed!! It is definately a catch 22- you want to do the right thing for these pups, yet you do not want to give these losers any more $$$ to fund their dispicable operation. It makes me cry to think of how good my Lex has it, while these poor dogs suffer needlessly- it isn't fair. I wish the stupid laws would change. The way the are animals are allowed to be treated is pathetic. They do not give them ANY rights whatsoever. Trust me, I have been on the phone MANY MANY times to animal control, the humane society, ect. I have made phone call after phone call. It is like beating your head against the wall. Without a doubt, one of the most frustrating things I have ever experienced. Sorry for my rant , but I feel SOOOOO passionate about this topic! I will pray for this little pup- may he get healthy very soon!! |
  to your boss!! That was such a sweet thing to do!!! And to think the shop had no problem selling him sick like that..Is this a franchise pet shop??? If so can you report this location to the corp office? If owed by an individual does this person actually know what is going on in this store??? Can you contact your local paper to see if they would do a human interest story on your boss and his purchase?? It certainly would bring attention to this horrible pet store and it would not be slander since your boss has a paid receipt for the dog and he has vet documentation of Zeus condition when brought in...This store needs to be closed!!!! |
Thanks for the update, what a cute name. Im so glad your boss got this little guy and gave him a chance at life, its not his fault to have to go through such a rough life and being so young, how sad. If I too had the money and saw this little guy suffering you can bet I would of got him. Petstore or not, I dont see how people can say walk away when theres a baby laying there suffering. God Bless you and your Boss. |

Bless your Bosses b ig heart and thank goodness for the little guy. Maybe you could post some pictures when he is well. I think your boss is entiltied to some compensation. I would check it out if I were him/her. Veterinary Care: While 17 states (Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia) require that pet shops provide veterinary care to sick or injured animals, only 2 of them (Kansas and Nebraska) require that each pet shop devise, in conjunction with a licensed veterinarian, a written program preventing disease, parasitic infestations, and injuries for the animals housed at the pet shop. A number of states require a certificate of health to accompany animals when they are transported across state lines for sale at a pet shop; other states require these health certificates prior to offering the animal for sale regardless of whether or not the animals were imported to the state. |

OMG!! I just found this thread, and was afraid to read to the last page, lest my heart be broken reading any more about this precious little baby. Bless you for your caring, and as for your Boss..... I have no words to describe my admiration for him. I am in total awe.:bravo::bravo::bravo: Those monsters who run puppy mills should be caged themselves, and the key thrown away. |
I shall sleep a little sounder tonight knowing the little angel is in safe & caring hands. |
Oh my gosh, that POOR pup was soooooo SICK and the store did NOTHING about it???? YUCK!!! Im soooo glad your boss did it! He/she must feel good about that! Even though those bills are crazy! I would have wanted to buy the pup but could not afford to take on medical expenses like that.. Im sooooo glad that I didnt see it... It makes me cry, especially knowing I couldnt do anything for it! :( |
