Food aggression Penny is very food aggressive. Any ideas on how to change this behavior? |
When she is eating something, gently approach her offering her something that she will see as higher value, something she prefers to what she already has. As you hand it to her she should drop what she has and take what you have. Pick the other thing up and take it away with you. Once she has got the hang of doing this, add a command such as 'drop' or 'thankyou', so that eventually you can use the command and not always have to offer her something better. This works because she will learn that giving you her food is a positive thing. |
Perhaps something in this article will help. It's from a dog trainer: http://www.squidoo.com/aggressivedog/ |
make her eat everything out of your hand no more bowls til she stops |
Thanks I will try this. She really isn't aggressive with me. She aggressive with my other dogs. Will these things still work? |

First off, I'd separate them to feed them while you work on the problem. A tactic that I've seen recommended is this. Hand feed them together. If they know sit/stay, do that first, then feed them. One for dog a, one for dog b, one for dog c, one for dog a, b, c, etc AS LONG AS all dogs are waiting their turns and being nice. When one dog acts up, he gets separated from the group (not angrily, just "oh, too bad, no more for you") and the others continue to be fed in this manner. I've read that others have had great success with this technique although I haven't tried it myself. |
