Wobie's Getting Neutered Tomorrow! Help! Ugh. My really long post just got deleted, so I'm gonna keep it concise this time. First things first, I'm really scared, so please pray for us! :( Secondly, I have some questions: I was told to not let him eat after 10 pm, but can he have nutrical? I'm worried about him not eating for 12+ hours, and being stressed on top of it. Do they offer them food afterwards? Can I bring some of his food so they can offer him some after the surgery, or do I just wait until we come home? Did any of you bring stuff with your babies when they had surgery? I'm bringing his favorite blanket, some toys, and a bully stick to keep in his kennel to comfort him if they let me. Is that weird? Lol, can you tell I'm nervous?! :rolleyes: |
My puppy just got neutered 10 days ago and is doing great! He will do just fine and will be back to normal in no time! I was also worried about him not eating for so long but he did just fine. I asked about bringing food but they do not allow them to eat for a few hours after the anesthesia wears off so that they don't get sick to their stomachs. I wasn't able to feed him until about 7pm on the night I brought him home and even then I was only allowed to give him 1/2 the normal amount of food. At first, he wasn't hungry but then all of a sudden his energy and appetite came back and he gobbled up his dinner! My guess would be that Nutrical would be a no-no since you are not allowed to give them water either. The vets monitor the dogs very carefully before, during and after the anesthesia so I am sure they will keep an eye on your baby. I would ask them how they prevent hypoglycemia when you take him in so that you have peace of mind. Good luck! He will do great! |
I don't know about nutrical. Mine was not to eat after midnight. I picked Aubrey up the same day and they didn't feed him, but he came home and I let him eat as much food as he wanted! Good luck, I know how you feel. Aubrey got neutered last Thursday!! Prayers coming your way! |

First off, he will be fine. You will be a mess all day of course, but he will do OK and much better off in the long run. Follow your vet's advise. If they said no food or water after a certain time that would include Nutrical. It is important that they have an empty stomach to avoid any problems with anesthesia. I doubt they will let you leave any stuff with him. They will probably be prepping him for surgery very shortly after you drop him off anyway. If Wobie is prone to hypoglycemia just make sure your vet or the intake person is aware of it and ask what they do to avoid problems. Maybe something in the IV. If he never has had problems before, he shouldn't now. He probably won't feel much like eating for quite a while afterwards. My vet gave me specific after care instructions. It was something like a tiny bit of water at first. If they had no problem keeping that down, then a little bit of soft food, and so on. Some dogs do have stomach issues after anesthesia and he may still be a little groggy -- mine sure were. By the next day, it was as if nothing had ever happened. Cheer up -- he'll be fine. |

Thanks for the support everyone. I'll be a wreck, but deep down I know he'll be fine... They don't mind me taking stuff to keep with him. I've done that with my other dogs, so luckily thats not a concern. I'll ask about the Nutrical/Hypoglycemia issue tomorrow. That makes sense about them not eating right after surgery. He probably won't feel like it anyway, but I'm still worried. I'm so blessed to know this vet. My family has been going to them for over 40years, so I trust them very much! |

Oh...poor li'l Wobie!:( Does this mean he won't be our little Boogie Man at the meetups? I don't know if they're allowed to bring anything. I tend to think it might get lost or something. I'm sure they won't have it on the operating table. Chloe is getting Spayed on the 21st :( . Is Wobie coming home the same day, or is he staying the night? |

I usually send my pets with something when they have to stay at the vet. They just keep it in the kennel that they keep them in before and after surgery. Maybe they don\'t get comfort from it, but I do. He\'s coming home the same day, thank goodness! I don\'t know what I would do if he was stuck there all night! He goes in at 8 am, and comes home in the early evening. I\'ll keep you and Chloe in my thoughts on the 21st. :( Does she have to stay overnight? |
Just wanted to let ya know we are praying for a safe surgery and speedy recovery for Wobie! I\'m sure he\'ll do great! I have to make the "dreaded" appointment for Mckenzie soon too and I\'m putting it off big time. |
