Should I do it? I found (NY daily newspaper) that provides low cost neutering. It will cost $35 total as oppose to $250 dollars if I were to take Shadow to his Vet. What do you guys think? |
does it have the name of the place where they would be doing the neutering. This procedure although lots of doctors have performed it millions of times, you want to be carefull that the right amount of anesthesia is used and that they dont keep him under for more than the required time you know. you want piece of mind knowing your baby is going to be ok |
I would ask if they use isoflourine or sevoflourine anesthesia, if they do preop bloodwork, do they come home with pain med and antibiotics (I don't know if this is necessary but would think so)... |
people trying to stop overpopulation, so why you can find cheap or even free service. but ! - take references (google), - ask vet what anastesia they use (gas is more popular, but doesn't work for some dogs with health problems), - take a blood test BEFORE the surgery to be sure that your yorkie is ok for anastesia... - ask him if he work with small dogs (birds, etc) because unexperienced vet can give too big doze for a small dog.... - don't let to put any vaccine at the same time (example: small chihuahua had same surgery + vet gave him some shots. result - his back legs were paralyzed on the second day and... he had a seisure. maybe they gave him a big doze, maybe they should have use a better anastesia, I don't know).... |
btw, he will be coming home the same day. Is that bad? |
I got max fixed at the ASPCA mobile clinic and like you I was a little confused at first. I went ahead and got it done and they did an excellent job. when I picked him up he was great. The same day he was running and playing (it was hard trying to get him to rest lol) They are vets just like the one in offices. they offer free neuter/spay for people on government assistance such as medicaid, welfare, foodstamps and disability or a 25 dollar donation if you arent on anything. what is the name of the place you are looking into? |

thanks. the first two links are very far from me. maybe i'll call my humaine society??? is that a good place to take pets to be neutered? or is it safer with a vet? |
Yes we have a humane society in NYC and they are great also. good luck in what you decide! one of those links has a list of places you could call, you can try calling them and see if they can help :-) |
i just tried calling our humane society their closed for the day. i think i might end up taking him to vet. i trust her and she is very good with pets. the last few times i was at the humane society. the receptionist person who runs everything she isnt so friendly. and i dont get a good vibe from her. its worth it to pay the extra money in the long run then risk our babies safety |
