Ever met a dog you didn't like? I know we're all dog lovers, but I was wondering if you have ever met a dog that you truly didn't like and, if so, why? As a child I was bitterly afraid of dogs. If I saw a dog coming toward me, no matter what age/size, I'd cross the street and I would be trembling in fear. I'm not sure how I started with this fear, but I know that it ended when my parents bought me a Beagle puppy. However, the first dog that I truly didn't like was my aunt's Boston Terrier. He was an adorable little thing, but he was tenacious when it came to sniffing and slobbering on me. He would run up to me when I came over their house and would sniff and lick one spot on my body (didn't matter which spot) and he wouldn't stop until I had a wet, slimey pool of saliva running down my clothes. I couldn't get away from him - he would stick to me like glue. You couldn't play with him or interact with him in any way - I would just have to sit there and endure his snuffling and licking and his "parents" NEVER said a word or made him stop. In this case I attribute it to poor training methods on his owners behalf. He could have been a perfectly wonderful dog if properly raised I think. Then today at the dog park I met another dog that was untrained and horrible. He jumped on me so many times that I finally left. I never even got to put Kalina down to play. His "father" kept saying BAXTER DOWN, but Baxter paid ZERO attention. I had mud all over my black pants from him and he was a big dog. I wouldn't have trusted him around Kalina anyway. So, anyone want to tell about the not so nice doggies in their lives? |
yes~~ i dont really like huge dogs cuz im still scared that they will bite me! when i was younger my uncle got this chinese shar pei (sp?) and it kept chasing me and it was so scary.. so one day i decided not to run anymore.. it ran up to me and bite me hard on my arm!! it bruised and i had to go get my tetnus (sp?) shot cuz apparently he didnt have his shots yet! |
i HATE to admit this to a world full of dog lovers...but I don't like my hubby's dog. i never have been able to bond with him, and frankly, just don't like him. I have tried and tried. he was 8 when hubby and i started living together and that means 8 years of (IMO) bad training that he was used to. and he is just a whiny, needy, irritating little dog. I have tried and tried and tried to bond with him. don't get me wrong, he is very sweet. but i just can't bond with him. people that come to my house think he is such a great dog. but ask my friends that have had to dog sit for us...he is ANNOYING!! ok...thanks for opening the door to let me vent about this. it is hard to keep it in, but have always feared getting yelled at on this board because there is a dog in my house that i dont like LOL don't get me wrong...he is not treated badly at all...i could never treat an animal badly. but he doesn't get the attention from me that maggie and daisy get...because we just don't like each other. it's sad, really. anyone want an 11 year old min pin?? LOL i'm kidding. i would never let him go anywhere....and would never want anything bad to happen to him. i just have to live with him and we agree to disagree LOL |
I don't like CHOWS! Quote:
However, we had a Shar Pei for almost 14 years and she was the sweetest dog you'd ever want to meet. |
Right now I can't think of an individual dog that I don't like, but there are certain breeds that I am not a fan of and would never own. |
I don't know of any dog I don't like. I'm not real fond of the neighbor's dogs tho! But usually when I'm annoyed by a dog, I know it's really their owner that I'm annoyed with...... |

There are no dogs that I dislike, but plenty of owners. |
I didn't like my brothers German Shepherd but it was not the dog's fault, it was a problem with my brother. He trained him to attack and be aggressive on command and thought it funny to play around with him when we visited. So didn't like the dog as I was scared it may strike out on its own and not wait for the "command." :( I was also bit by a German Shepherd that was a guard dog that got out of his fenced area............guess I don't do well with German Shepherds. |
I dont like large breeds. I am scared of them |
I was bitten by my best friends poodle as a child..they wernt home and her little min. poodle was on the front porch...she knew me very well so I reached down to say hello and give her a pet on the head and that little bugger bit me!!!! LOL...I dont HATE poodles but they still make me leary to this day!! Dawn |
I have problems with German Shephards. It's not that I don't like them it's just they scare me half to death. I watch those police video's and can see their power and it scares me. I was in the vets office the other day, and one rubbed up against me, and I thought I was going to scream. Poor dog was only trying to be friendly. I'm really working on this fear, because I've never been hurt by one. It's just some odd thing with me. |

Oh, I totally agree! As an adult I understand that it's not the dog's fault (in most cases) but when you're a child it's just plain scary and since then I've always been leary of a chow dog. Actually I was afraid of it then too but the little girl who's pet it was said "It's ok, he won't bite" so I reached out to pet it and CHOMP! I think it sensed I was afraid of it. |
Me, too, with German Shephards - I got attacked by one when I was little - but I now blame the owner - even though this dog was chained up - he broke the chain and got me. I'm surprised that I love animals the way I do because of that, but it's just large dogs I'm leary of - not that I don't like them - just don't want one. I'm content and happy with those that are knee-height or lower...lol...and I know they can get rowdy too but it's the size factor for me. |
Yes! My friend's bichon is nasty! She is the only bichon I have ever met that is like this and I know quite a few people who have them. She seriously looks like she is going to attack you and my friends dad is always worried that the dog actuallyy will. My friend always says she doesn't know what she did wrong and that she thinks Angel (the dog/Devil) was too "sheltered." It is crazy I always look at her dog and then Teddy and think how lucky I am. He loves everyone and is extremely affectionate. His biggest "downfall" is that he will hound you till you love him! He stops people on the street when I walk him and insists that they give him a little love! |
I love all dogs , I never been afraid of one . |
Yes, I bought a Yorkie female once from a man. There was something he forgot to tell me. She ate her babies. I wanted to shoot her but, hubby made me sell her for pet.:animal-pa |
I love all dogs but I am weary of big dogs especially Rotts and Dobbies.I wouldn't mind having a big dog of my own but it will never be Rotts/Dobbies unless I am getting them as an adult and they have already proved themselves that they are the exceptional mellow ones. When I was a teenager, a Rott lunge at me when I was on my way home after school and the Rott's owner 'forgot' to put a leash on him while out for a walk.It was scary to have such a big and heavy thing charging at you and nearly bite my neck out of my body.I also am afraid of a friend's Yorkie because he will keep jumping and then proceed to bite the back of my shirt and hangs there for as long as his teeth would hold and it hurts coz he nips too.He wasn't like that when he was a puppy so I am not sure what changes him.I feel that the owner didn't give him much love and attention and the way he train his dogs is by yelling out loud at him and I do feel for the dog but it is not going to change unless the owner changes. |
I usually like most dogs, big and small. I'm not afraid of big dogs at all. I don't like dogs that slobber. And I don't like dogs the smell like dogs!!! My mom has a very large Great Pyranese and she has the widest rear end I've ever seen. She weighs about 150 lbs and literally can knock you over if you are too close to her as she turns. She is sweet as can be but very furry and she likes to get wet - so imagine 150 lbs of wet dog smell and drool everywhere!!!! She is definitely not my favorite dog!! |
Yes, I totally hate the two pit bulls that live in my complex. Both were rescues and are totally crazed. One moved two months ago and I was so relieved. Guess what moved in. Right, another pit who is not friendly at all!. It's owner, female, has trouble holding onto it when she walks it. Sorry, I don't trust or like pit bulls. I don't care who owns them! |
