Possibly pregnant yorkie Hi! I'm brand new at this site. I have a beautiful 7 lb. Yorkie named Jazz that I adore. Here's my problem-I boarded her at a local Pet Hotel for 2 days a couple of weeks ago. The day after I picked her up, I got an anonymous call from an employee to let me know that a 6-mo-old Havanese male had sex with her during her play group time. He should never have been in the same play group and she was upset I hadn't been told. I've confirmed this happened with the manager-and to get to my main issue here-she had a blood test on Friday and I won't have the results for about 2 days. After talking with the Dr., and knowing that the Havanese was larger than Jazz-I'm not sure what the safest route to go is. Allow the pregnancy to proceed and know she may need a caeserian or have them perform an abortion. My vet would do the abortion at their office and spay her at the same time or I could go to a specialist to do the abortion and not spay her. I just don't want her to die and I'm freaking out a bit. I'd be grateful for your input. Thanks. |
I know this must be hard but I would abort the litter and spay her at the same time. You didn't say how old your girl is but stistically it is much better on her health long term to be spayed. I would also make the Pet hotel pay for all of this. |
ditto Double ditto!! |
OMG!! That would piss me off, sorry. I would complain to the coporate office, if its petsmart you are talking about. They should have told you that once you picked her up! Was no one watching them to let a dog get on her and have sex with her?? They shouldn't have been left unatended. |
I would be furious!!!! All costs that you have to come up with because of this would be on the company if it was up to me. :thumbdown I'd go above them if possible. This shouldn't be taken lightly. |
i would be telling them they need to pay your vet bill opr you will sue them |
I would be upset too that they let that happen, especially since it takes a couple minutes for a dog to tie normally. If someone had been watching the dogs they would have been able to stop it right away. I'm surprised they have unneutered animals in daycare though. Here, dogs have to be spayed and neutered to be in doggy daycare. Also, did you not know that she was in heat when you took her in? Having an unaltered animal is a big responsibility - you have to pay attention to when your female is in heat and keep her away from all males for a month to prevent pregnancy. If they did know she was in heat and they still let this happen, they definitely need to pay for all your medical bills. My main problem with what they did was that they weren't honest with you from the start - accidents happen sometimes and when one does happen, the ethical thing to do is to be honest about it. Dogs can get STDs so you also need to have her tested for Herpes and Brucelosis - and I would send the bill to that pet hotel. |
Jazz Jazz is 1 yr. and 4 months old. It was a Petsmart Hotel and they've agreed to pay all costs associated with the pregnancy. I'm mostly hoping to get a few opinions about the safest route to go for her. The other dog wasn't huge, but I've seen him and he's at least 5 lbs. bigger than Jazz. Thanks for your continued input-I should know in another day or two what the blood test says. Also-thanks for the info about testing her for STDs. |
thats good that they agreed to pay!! But i hope she isn't. |

Sorry this happened to you. :( |
I also hope she is not pregnant. Good luck with the tests! |
good luck with all this at least there going to pay i would be sooo pissed though ugh |
I would have the litter aborted and her spayed at the same time. There are so many puppies being born with not nearly enough homes for them. At 7lbs she should be able to safely deliver the puppies, but do you really want to take that chance? There can be so many complications with pregnancy, and raising a litter of puppies is a lot of work and can be quite an expense. I just wouldn't want to take the chance of losing my baby - I'd have her spayed. |
I think I would have her spayed and abort the litter. It is not a happy choice by any means, but you really need to be sure you can handle a pregnancy, birth, and finding all of the puppies good homes. I know I wouldn't be willing to take the risk. Also, thank you to whoever posted about dogs being able to contract STD's. It doesn't apply to my gang since they are all fixed (1 is waiting to be fixed), but that is something I didn't know! |
Ok Dork here. (me). i saw the original poster say something about STDs i didnt know dogs could get that too? what do you do for them? is it just like when humans get it? sorry for asking dumb questions. but i have just never heard of it |
