Question about sibling for a tiny? Ok so we have decided that now that Ninna is not part of our home full time (only on weekends when my mom brings her over) perhaps we need to start thinking of a permanent sibling for Tiffy. To what degree should I be concerned with the size of the sibling? Tiffy is 2.2 and I am very afraid of another fur-baby coming in and injuring her. Any advise would be helpful :) |
I dont know if this helps but I have an 8lber boy and a 5lber boy (really should only be about 4.5lbs - hes a bit of a chub haha) and they play great together. Its like my big guy knows to be more gentle with his brother. Im always surprised that my little guy weighs 5lbs... hes just sooooo tiny! |
Maria, I did not realize about this new arrangement . .when did this happen? I must have missed a thread (send me the link). As far as size, the only way you can guarantee if you want a tiny like Tiff would be to get one that is full grown . . . now getting along, I have no clue but am sure a few hundreds will give great advise as always. |
I have a 2.2 lbs and a 14 lb. Dakota every now and then will squeal, but then she gets right back up to play. I don't think size matters. My opinion. |

I don't think there will be enough difference in their size to make a difference. Usually the older dog for some reason understands it has to be gentle with the littler one. |
I have a eight pound boy kaycee and his daughter weighs 4 pounds ,when she was a baby her let her hang from his ears and believe me she is a fast little booger, she always steals toys from nikkie my puppy mill yorkie who is nine pounds, believe me they can hold there on. |

Honestly I have no preference, but if size is not a safety issue I would rather get a larger yorkie.. just want to make sure I do the right thing. |
I think she will be fine with any size yorkie. There is a 5 lb difference with my two and I have never had any incidents |
Lola is 8 pounds and My sister's chi Lily is 2.5 pounds full grown. They play together great and Lily hasn't been hurt yet. The chi is more agressive lol always trying to hang from Lola's facial hair... It just funny because you would think that the bigger one would be the bully lol. I think your little girl will love having a sibling and she'll probably be the boss lol. |

I have a 6 1/2 lb boy, a 3 lb girl and a 4 1/2 lb girl. Not to mention a little over a 100 lb Golden Retriever who plays with them all. No problems with any of them. Once in a while Rascal (our boy) gets a little rough and make one whimper.. but if they do he quickly stops. ;) Our Golden plays soooooooo gentle with all of them.. shes so sweet! :) |
I think she will be ok with any size yorkie, they are all pretty small, even the teapots. |
Size doesn't seem to matter in our home!!! We find the bigger ones give the tiny ones whatever they want, lol. I think as long as you watch them initially and make sure they learn to play nice it should be fine getting any size brother or sister. |
I agree with ^^^^^^^ :p |

Thats soo true. This morning the pups had already eaten. Well the cat food was put up where Dakota can't reach it well aubrey could. So he was getting into the bowl and getting it out and giving some to Dakota... so they do help each other!!! |
At barely over 4 lbs, my Sissy isn't as tiny as Tiffy - but she is very small in body size as well. Size was an issue for me in deciding on another Yorkie because I didn't want Sissy to get hurt with someone bigger than she is. She can usually hold her own, but it is a totally different story when you're talking meet-up vs. a permanent fixture :) At 10 months of age, Angel is a little over an inch taller, two inches longer and almost a full pound heavier, though really skinny in comparison. Angel likes to play constantly and roughly and is constantly jumping on Sissy and biting her. Sissy gives it right back but will cry to be held when she has had enough and Angel is still rarin to go!!!! Angel is also a major jumper and has just started to take a flying leap off the couch (or bed) trying to jump on Sissy on the floor. Needless to say, this is NOT okay, so we are scolding whenever we see her setting it up. I do worry very much about Sissy being hurt still. I know Angel is stll a pup, but she plays and plays and plays, then plays some more and Sissy just doesn't want to be as active as Angel is. When it comes to much larger dogs, Sissy usually hides. We have a good friend with a Sheltie who comes over frequently. Angel loves playing with her and occasionally gets kind-of pounded on by the Sheltie. Sissy does not playing with her and will either hide or want to be held. Good luck with whatever you decide. |
To me size matters if you have to go out and leave them alone together. Since Sophia and London are so close in size i feel comfortable leaving them together, they are about 1/2 lb apart. They play and get along great but sometimes like to wrestle but that's ok cause they are close in size. Teddy is bigger so i separate them when i go out, right now he is at my bf's house cause London is on her heat but when he is here and im not home i do have to put him in another room since he is so much bigger. |
I have 2 Yorkies and a pom. The pom was 13 lbs, until she got sick and Cali is 5 lbs. I got Pixie in January fuil grown at 3 .3 lbs and she rules the house. She pulls Cali's leg out from under her and pushes her up against the wall and she jumps on Maya and we have had no problems. Maybe try and get a quieter, more laid back puppy. |

My maltese isn't as tiny as your yorkie, but she is tiny, in my opinion. Emma is just under 4 lbs, and Miko is almost 11lbs, and I have no problems whatsoever with them. He is very gentle with her, even though she's a big bully to him :) Emma pushes Miko around. But Miko came first...We had him for almost 3 yrs before we got her. What size is the yorkie that you're thinking of getting? I think it depends on the new pup's temperament...If he's extremely fiesty and much bigger, your little one might get hurt by accident, but if he's docile and friendly, I don't think you will have a problem. But if you're really concerned about size, I would get a pup that's at least 6-9 months old or maybe a little older to make sure that he will stay the size that you want. |
