Adding a second furbaby Well, my husband and I are considering getting a baby girl but first we need to know what we would be getting into. :xfingers: We have a 1yr 3month old boy. He is neutered so we do not intend on getting her for breeding purposes. We are very attached to our Louis Bear as he is with us and we are sooo nervous about getting a second ( we call her Lucy) Yorkie. We really want a 5-7 pound baby because our 11lb boy is really healthy ( thank God!) We dont plan on doing this until in about a year. We plan on moving into a bigger place by then. We just like to plan ahead. What would you experienced Yorkie parents suggest? |
It took Piper a good six months to stop be madding at us for getting Penny. He would poot, and look really sad. He was 4 when we got Penny. He is slowly adjusting to having to share the attention, but I was really worried at first, however he is coming along. I found giving him more attention then Penny helped a lot. |
We just got Kamikaze a week and a half ago. Kaze is high energy and Ryoko is laid back. Other than a lot of sniffing and a little bit of play that looks like RYoko is playing, but a the time saying "Mom what is this other dog doing, i dunwanna play". They have not gotten in any major tifs. Since Kaze is new he doesn't eat his food as fast as Ryoko so Ryo tries to steal his food all the time. They are the same age so there is no difference there. Kaze's hair is much much thicker than Ryo's. I wasn't prepared for that, but at least they both have the same silky texture. I would say be prepared to have two with different types of hair, I had never thought of that. Also remember its double the money spent. :thumbdownAnd Walks are not easy so far, we are a mess when walking so instead of the coupler I will have to get a second leash until Kaze learns to heel. |
I think you should wait until you have everything prepared to bring her home. I just got my 2nd one and its hard at times, and then other times I love it. But you have to do the training thing all over again. |

I'm not the one to ask. I had one, "Duke" and was very happy. But when I lost him in June, I got another and then a 2nd three weeks later and am considing a third yorkie now and his daughter a Chorkie when shes is ready (she's only 6 days old) so I have no will power at all. Good luck, I have found the more you have the more work but the more love also. |
Outside of having to train another one I love having two!!! Tilly (my first) had really bad separation anxiety until we got our second. She use to shake and have accidents when we would leave her, now she just lays in her bed with JJ. They do have a love/hate relationship though. They are so adorable! :) |
Thank you all for your input. We would definately wait for our finances to grow. Which is why we know to wait. We want to have a bigger place and my hubby has under a year to graduate. One thing I learned form just watching people with two small dogs is seperate leashes because you dont want to discipline both of them if one is mis behaving. Also, I never even thought about the hair thing. Thanks for the tip! I have another question but I will just start another thread. Thanks a whole lot my YT'ers!!!! |

I got my second yorkie last year. My first one was an only child for 6 years, and he took to her pretty good! Made me wish I'd given him a sister many years back... |
Go for it, its so much better for them to have playmates. He may feel a little upset at first but in my experience within a couple of weeks it all settles down :) I actually find it easier to walk them on 2 dog leads, not a coupler but a lead with 1 handle and 2 extensions, works well for us. |

Just be careful when you look that you don't fall in love with more than one pup. That is the same thing that happened to me, lol...I was looking to add one or two more babies to my home in January and ended up getting three  more. Now I have five and love them all so much!! God luck to you :p |

We got Louis from a pet store with papers and all, but this was before we learned about puppy mills. Im glad we got Louis but we want to go with a private breeder instead for our second yorkie. They are too darn cute!!!! |
