As long as he is healthy, I dont see a problem  If you arent going to love him unconditionally then maybe you should rehome him to a family that will...I really hope you werent serious about making him stop growing because I bet he is a real cutie and 8-9 lbs is still a SMALL dog! |

Bentley is 7 lbs, and a little over a year old..and for a while I thought he was too big..or maybe I was over feeding him. But I love his size, I wouldn't want him any smaller, or eles my cat would miss him on the couch and smother him lol. She is HUGE, almost 17 lbs. |

and who knows...they all grow differently. maggie was thought to be 6-7 lbs full grown but she has topped out at 5.1 lbs and hubby is telling me he thinks she is actually "chunky". so you never really know. just love his little butt :) |
If he's 5lbs at 16 weeks, he's probably going to be somewhere between 9-11lbs full grown. The thing about weight though is it depends on the frame of your dog and the condition you have it in. Is your puppy at a healthy weight for its body frame now? |
Well all yorkies grow different. My male Peeka is now just over a year old and he weighs in at 4 lbs 8 oz he fluctuates between 4 lb 4 oz to 4 lbs 8 oz he stopped growing at 6 months old. I thought he was going to be at least 10 pounds the way he was growing but he's not. Now my female Daisy she is 10 months old and just started growing she has put on almost a pound in the last few months her line is slow growing when i got her at 11 weeks she was only 1 lb 8 oz and it has taken a really long time for her to pick up any weight she is now fluctuating between 4 lbs and 4 lbs 4 ozs. I hope you can love your baby no matter what size he is. I have seen some of the most beautiful yorkies ever that were 10 lbs we have some here that are so beautiful i am in awe of them. Good luck with your baby. |

when we have children, we have NO idea how they will turn out...hair color, size, eye color, health, etc. but we love them anyway. why should our pets be different???? where's the love????? |
All 4 of my furkids are different sizes from 2 pds to 8 pds, its not the size that matters its the love and affection we receive on a daily basic, I woudnt trade any of my furbuts big or small for anything in the world:D :D :D |
Aubrey was around his size at that age, hes 12 lbs now!!! Not saying that yours will get that big, but I think he will def. be over akc standard of 7lbs. |

you were probably just expecting ur lil one to be smaller.. but dont worry about his size-like people have posted here before even the 'teapots' are still small!! My mom has a 10lb. yorkie and she is still little.. i can carry her and everything. i know you love ur lil one-just dont worry about the weight.. its out of your control.. so enjoy the time you have with him(especially while he is still in the puppy stage-cuz it will come and go like that!! :)) xxo. |
