How much harder is 2 than 1? As some of you already know, We just added Brodie to our family. He has been fantastic. I have had soooo much fun with him already. I can not get over how attached and how much I love him already. Since we got the belly bands(thanks Go.fetch), the potty pad training has been great. My question is this? Brodie was one of two little boys in a litter. I wanted the other little boy also but hubby was not having it. So I did not push it...Well, Barbara just called me and they still have his brother. Due to personal family reasons, they have not been able to find him a new home. She knew I was interested in him and said that now that things have settled down somewhat in their home. It was time to find him a home. I approached hubby and he said let him think about it....We all know what that means....:D So my big question is: Are 2 pups really all that much more difficult? The expense part, I am aware of...2 neuters, etc.. We have had multiple pets before just never 2 pups at one time. Am I biting off more than I can handle. I am a stay at home wife. So that is not an issue...Brodie goes everywhere with me...Not that I go that many places..lol.. Would love some input. She promised to hold him for me til I call her back. Thanks |
I think that it would be wonderful for him to have his brother to play with. There have been times that I have second guessed having 2 but they are so great together. Just remember you have to have 2 of everything (but they'll always want the same one, haha). Since you stay at home that is wonderful. You can train them together!!! Good Luck!!! |
I had two that were pups together and I really didnt think it was that much harder. I was a stay at home Mom too and I can tell you that really helps with the pottytraining. When they would get onry and tear something up however they do it together. Mine tore up the lineolum in my bathroom together but that was also my fault because I didnt confine them. It is more expensive at the vets so that is a consideration. Still you cant beat all the lovin you get from them also the companionship they give to each other. My breeder also said yorkies do better in pairs than alone. I have found that to be true. If you havethe money and the patience and time I say go for it |
I have 3 but never had 2 puppies at the same time, I wish I did. I think having his brother would be great. I love having multiples. I too stay home which helps. I have insurance on the 2 youngest and that helps with vet expenses. |
i would go for it! |
Go for it!! Go for it!! You know you are going to end up with 2 or more anyway! :D. Yorkies are like potato chips, you can't have just one!! :aimeeyork  :aimeeyork  :aimeeyork I will never have a single dog again. I love having 2 and now we have 3!! We feel each one is special in their own way and they entertain each other. I love to sit back and just watch them play. Your 2 will grow up together and they will have sooooooooo much fun!!! When i have to leave the house, my girls also have each other and there isn't that separation anxiety that Kissy had when she was the "only child" for 5 years. I always felt guilty leaving her alone. Boarding is easier too as they have each other to be with. Hurry and go get that baby boy!! You know you will anyway so what are you waiting for!! :) |

ya im going to wait about a week or two after i get my yorky and get chihuahua female.you can never have enough dogs or stuff for them! we already have a 19 week old male english bulldog and 15 week old female bulldog. |
I have 2 boys from the same liter! They are inseperable! I love having 2! Their personalities are soooo different and I feel that they need each other. I do work full time though so I feel sooo much better that when Im at work they have each other to play with! And honestly going through the puppy stage just once with them both would be much easier than going through the puppy stage again! :) Go for it!!! You gotta train one anyways, you might as well train two, if you can afford the expense of 2! |
I have two, and their fine together. I think they would keep each other occupied. |
I got my two when they were both puppies, they are only 2 weeks apart in age. I had Hoku first and a few weeks later added her 1/2 brother Kalani. They are inseparable and have so much fun playing together that I don't think I could ever have only one again:) |
My hubby and I were just talking about this. We both agree, if we were going to have more then one Yorkie...we would like them to be litter mates. I think it would have helped Winston a whole lot with his anti-social attitude, he's not mean, doesn't bite...he simply ignores and avoids other people and dogs, he's kind of stuck-up. LOL!!! I say if money is not an issue...go for the gold...get the other little boy. I think it's a great opportunity for all involved... |
 i would def. get another one if i were you!! Avery is 4months old and we want to get her a sibling as well.. we have already began to look for a reputable breeder(because we know this can take some time) We hope within a few months (when avery is around 8 months or so..) anyways.. i say DO IT!! :) and they will have a buddy to play with always.. |
I say get the brother! :) Do you have photos? |
I have two. Love every minute of it. The only hard part is potty training, once you get past that part I am sure it will be the best thing! |
Most of the people on this site have at least 2 yorkies! I love it! I got my second pup to keep my other one company while I was at school. The only thing I regret about it is that it is harder to take them both somewhere, whereas with one, you can take him everywhere. I would feel bad taking one and not the other somewhere, and can't ever leave just one at home, or they will go nuts. But I wouldn't trade one in for the world, and I would feel worse about leaving one at home alone more. In my opinion, it just depends on how mobile you want your dogs to be! Walking them both can be a chore sometimes too, but I have the dog whisperer to thank for learning how to walk them together! |

I agree. WIth me getting my 2nd one AUbrey has a playmate, and loves every minute of it. It also gives me a little more time on YT! :D |
You're going to eventually get another one anyway....I always feel bad for Max, at times like this. I'm online and he's sleeping because I'm his only buddy. I can't wait for Gracie to come! I haven't spent much getting ready for her. Two can live as cheaply as one! The only extra expenses will be the vet and doggy day care if I decide to send them once in a while. Good luck with your decision. |
i would def go for it!!! i wish i could get another one but i cant right now...i would really like to in the near future so princess can have someone to play with when im not home!! |
I have littermates, male and female (Seth and Sasha) I do not regret it for one minute. Potty training is alittle rougher but nothing we can't handle. Goodluck and go for it.:D :D :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
Am I Nuts???? We are thinking we want a female yorkie in the spring. our Male Chewy is a year old. i am looking forward for a little friend for Chewy but my one concern is he is so loving... my little buddy. he follows me every where in the house. Sleeps with me, and we go for long morning walks. He loves us all and is constantly playing with us... I'm worried he will not need me or my family any more and will only want the other yorkie as his new friend. Am I nuts? Or could this happen???? |
I did it! I did it! I did it! I talked some more to hubby...We discussed alot of the pros and cons of having 2 pups at one time....So I called the breeder back and we are getting Brodie's brother....We are picking him up Friday.....I hope I can wait that long....lol...I mean 5 days is not that long.... |

I really do think you're making a wise choice, you will all be so happy together. I'm excited for you, this is what I would have done too. Now about a name??? |
Archie and Willie are twins, and I still think getting them both was the best decision we made. I wouldn't have it any other way. Don't bother getting two of everything (except the obvious - leashes, etc.), since they will want to fight over the one. Mine have 4 Pipsqueak lions -- does that help? Nope. Now as to whether having two puppies at the same time is any harder really depends on the puppies. I don't think anyone can say for certain. I guess I've had it easy reading about some of the issues others here have had with their puppies. Mine could qualify for sainthood compared to some other's pups. No way to know if that is a result of breeding, their temperament or somewhat related to the fact that I am retired so I am home with them during the day. Mine are both extremely loving and attentive to all of their "people". The only issue they have is that they are very co-dependent, easy to understand since they have never been apart. Their trainer is trying to work on that. But my experience is that simply watching the two of them together is just the best thing ever. So I'd also say, get the brother. |

Aaahhhhh Thanks for the Congrats....I am soooo excited.... I can hardly wait....:D |
Oh thats great! I don't think you will regret it at all!! :) My boys are as bonded to me as they are to each other! I think you are just going to have 2 heads to scratch and pet instead of 1! sometimes i wish I had more hands with my 2! :) |
