Yorkie Puppy Pair Hi everyone, I'd just like to ask if anyone has any idea on how to raise yorkshire terrier puppies? Since we recently bought 2 2 month old puppies, and in the week that they've been in our care, they've grown pretty fast since they've been eating more now (3-4x a day) that when they were with their former owners (2x a day). Anyway, my question was: do you really have to separate the 2 puppies from each other, since their teeth have started to grown, even though they are brothers since they might hurt each other, or worse, kill the other one? Cause they seem to be biting one another's faces/ears. Thanks a bunch! |
Its a puppy thing, they will figure it out, I wouldn't seperate them. If you seperate them now you may never be able to put them back together. One should end up more dominate. |
Biting, especially at only 2 months old, is very normal. Usually puppies learn bite inhibition between 8-12 weeks from its mother and littermates (which is one reason they should be with the mother until 12 weeks). The biting you're describing is just playing - a lot of dogs bite when they play with each other. You should be able to tell if they are just playing or fighting. |
That is how they play by jumping and biting each other and it is normal and seems ruff sometimes. You can usually tell when one doesn't want to play and the other keeps messing with him. That is when I would seperate them to give the other one a break. I have to make Kodak stop playing when Kamari is walking away or lays down and he keeps pulling at her. Just moniter how they play and if one gets rough then break it up. I've heard Kamari whimper and I make them stop and seperate them for a minute. I seperate the more forceful one behind a gate to show them you can't play so rough. Give them lots of squesk and chew toys to keep their attention towards playing and not fighting so much. :D |
I agree, don't separate them or else you may never be able to have them together later. I have a litter of 7 puppies that are almost 6 weeks, and there are some really growling and "fights" when one is done playing and another won't quit. These "fights" at a young age are the way they learn. Now if the fight goes on I intervene, but only have done that a hand full of times. They won't hurt each other at 8 weeks, I would keep an eye on them though. Getting them fixed will also help with the aggression. |
I wouldn't separate them either. Their just doing normal puppy stuff. |
