microchip Has anyone had their dog microchipped? if so what was the cost? and if there are many different kinds, which one did you go with and why. thanks! |
I've had both Lacy and one of my cats microchipped. I had Lacy's done at a microchip clinic at Petco that a rescue group was doing. It was $10 to have it done and $15 to register it. Her's is an AVID chip. My cat, Sophie, was microchipped at the vet. I believe hers cost $30 or $35 and then like $20 or so to register it. Sophie's is a Home Again chip. I actually registered Lacy's AVID chip with Home Again as well because Home Again will send out alerts to all the shelters, rescue groups, and vets in your area if your pet gets lost. The cost of implanting the chip will vary from vet to vet. I highly recommend microchips - collars and tags can come off and microchips are the best way to make sure your dog gets returned to you. |
Aubrey has Home Again, the vet charged me $50 to put it in, and then I have to pay Home Again $24.99 then $10 or $24 each year to keep it up. |
I just had my husband Jack russell done it was $40.00 for the chip and 17.50 to reg with home again. |

I paid $35 for mine to be chipped each. I got the Home again chip because thats what my vet had. I had it done at the spay/neuter |
Layla has EIDAP. We are in Canada so there are only like two kinds and we used this as it can be read internationally. which in short means if we are travelling in the USA any of the readers will be able to read her chip. It costs 40 dollars to get it put in and then 17 dollars to register her, it is only 11 if you don't want to include a picture. Layla didn' even flinch when they did it and she is a huge suck... cries when she gets her needles :p but she did bleed a bit where they put it in. |

I think our vet goes through Home Again too... We have to go in tomorrow for the next bordatella shot, so we will ask. It's time that we have gotten it. Plus Peanut will need to be put under to get some teeth removed, so its the best time. |

the microchip is not like what what they have in car such as if they got stolen then you can turn it on and locate your dog. its just for identification if they got picked up at the "pound" right? |

Hey- I saw this thread and thought it might have something to do with the new studies but see that it's not and I'm trying to spread the word. Aparently they've had some new studies that show a shocking risk of cancer associated with the microchip- there were some sketchy situations going on with the approval of the microchipping in the first place.
