Boobah, a fussy eater... Hi to everyone! Went to the Petco to see about getting a different pet food for boobah. She is so finnicky about what she eats it drives me up a wall! However, i asked the clerk at petco, if it is possible for a puppy to starve itself to death, she said "the only animal that will starve itself to death is the cat. The dog will not, it will eventually eat. Cats are very fussy and if they dont get the food they want, they just wont eat.!" I just asked because boobah will not eat her kibble for the life of me! Comments out there? Thanks,,,rontiss 1:eek: |
Addendum I've tried Caesar canned food, pro life kibble, Eukanuba (she ate that when I first got her home), and something called Candidae. I tried mixing the kibble in with her other food. But yet, she still has the energy of a 747 commercial jet liner, and zooms throughout the townhouse. She drinks a lot of water, too. Any comments out there? |
I read on another post that a dog will eat something if you spit on it... seriously, that's what I read and the person tried it and it worked... I don't think a dog will strave either, my Gypsy hardly eats and my Mum's Yorkie eats even less! They both do eat, just not a great deal and slowly pick their way through a bowl. Some days she'll eat a couple of bowls full but mostly she will have one bowl and make it last all day. |
Have you tried mixing the food with cottage cheese. That always works for me when mine wont eat |
My girls were super picky eaters too. I had to mix something in with their food for them to eat it but they ended up just eating the good stuff and leaving the dog food. After all the dog recalls, my research lead me to the LIfe's Abundance dog food. My girls LOVE this food and i no longer put anything in there with it and they eat it like crazy. the kibble is tiny too. If you would like to try it, i have free samples available. Just PM me and let me know and i'll send you out a sample. You have nothing to lose and you might be surprised that she will LOVE it!! :) p.s. most of the brands sold in the petsmarts/petco are full of things that the babies don't need. Just read the ingredients and make sure there is no corn, no wheat or soy, and no by-products. click here to compare some of the top brands and what is in each one COMPARE DOG FOODS There is a video on there too that has a lot of good information about what is in commercial dog foods. |
I had to mix cottage cheese in for quite a while since he had been sick. also at first when i got him home he wasnt eating so I cooked hamburger and chicken liver and mixed it with moistened kibble and I slowly removed the homemade stuff. I thought he was going to starve too. He lost weight and had started at 2 and 3/4 pounds when I had gotten him and 12 weeks. I thought, how much can he lose! |
If you want to stick with kibble and canned, Merricks is a good brand of canned food and they have so many varieties so you can change it up everyday so she doesn't get bored. You could mix kibble with canned so maybe she'll eat it. I have Lacy on a raw diet and she loves it. I buy Nature's Variety Raw medallions and alternate venison and rabbit everyday. If you don't like the idea of raw, a homecooked diet would be a good way to go. There are a lot of people on here that homecook and could give you recipes. I bet she'd eat that and it would be better for her than kibble |
After 16 months of the same problem, I discovered that a bit of Parmesan cheese sprinkled in his kibble works! I had changed from Merricks to Back to Basics. I want Max and Gracie on the same food so I started him on it a few weeks ago. Of course, he wouldn't even look at it until I tried the parmesan cheese. I hope Gracie likes it too, because that's what they're both getting along with Merrick's Puppy Plate wet food. |
Boobah and mommy - read this thread - it's talking about the same thing..lol. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92244 |
Ahhhhhhh, I can sure relate...I know Boobah and Izzie are the same age... My lil one started doing the same thing a few weeks ago....she was eating fine out of her bowl in the morning/evening was on a super schedule.... and then all of a sudden...poof.....she doesn't want to eat out of the bowl anymore...now if I put her kibble in an empty water bottle...well she has no problem in woofin the food down...I called her vet concerning this and he said that she is one who just likes to work for her food...I still keep some kibble in her bowl throughout the day and will try adding just a tad of paramasan cheese to it and she will eat it....I thought at first that maybe it might be her teething, but even adding water to the kibble to soften it up doesn't seem to work...we are now in the process of slowly changing her from Eukunaka (which came with her from her breeder) to Natural Balance.... |
