I was concerned that was going to be the point of your post. My vet and I considered going to a specialist,pulmonary-cardiologist, to do a bronchial wash on my boy, Jesse. After a lot of consideration and discussion, we made the decision that it was more risky than either of us wanted to assume. "It is not too common to do trach. washing except as a last resort" was what conclusion I came to after my research..Of course, you have to trust your vet OR find another one.. Let us know what you decide and you will be in our thoughts. |
I have to stress this point: "It is not too common to do trach. washing except as a last resort" An example of this is after our puppy was so sick he couldn't breathe without oxygen and had to be transferred to the emergency room he had another x-ray taken. The x-ray showed that his lungs were filled 75% with fluids. Even then the person who interpreted the x-ray said to proceed with medicines and only if the condition got WORSE (not sure how that would be possible) to proceed with a tracheal wash...it is my opinion that a puppy should not be put into that much stress unless ABSOLUTELY necessary It is my feeling that some vets although they seem nice are also looking for ways to make more money. Since these procedures are considered relatively safe for the animal they are willing to perscribe it, with the thought that it will give them information necessary to treat the illness and there will be no side effects and give them the extra money they charge for the surgery. When my puppy had the x-rays the technician who interpreted it even said that they should use an antibiotic "Calvamox" to treat his condition and our vet didn't even call to tell us this, instead they continued with the procedure. |
I have never had a tracheal wash done and would really have to think about having it done!!! I fear just about anything that has to do with the throat in a yorkie because I have witnessed my own yorkie's death from trachea collapse. It's horrendous!!!! I even cringe at the thought of anesthesia when getting spayed!!! I am beside myself the whole time. I have a tiny yorkie right now and the one that passed was a tiny also, so I'm very careful and always aware of whats being done to them, especially if it has anything to do with the throat! |
