tangles and matts We have a 5 month old and her hair tangles and matts so easily, any ideas how to keep this from happening? She doesn't like the brushing although I try to brush daily even though she objects, I'm hoping she will get use to it and get better with age. Are there any special shampoo's or conditioners that help reduce the amount of tangles and matts? This is our first yorkie so we are learning and would appreciate any suggestions.:aimeeyork |
Both of mine have har that will tangle and matt. The best shampoo I have found is Minksheen. The best conditoners I have found is Pantene and Loreal Vive. I leave the conditioner on the hair 15 to 20 minutes. Another great thing to use when you are combing their hair out is Johnsons and Johnsons detangler. I also use a comb rather than a brush |
I agree with the previous post. Especially about the Detangler (I use it while I'm combing.). I had to tire Adie out so she would be a little more relaxed but she still gives me a little trouble. I still have to use a comb too because her hair is baby fine and fairly thin. Add Cowboy Magic to really bad tangles and work it in real good. The tangle practically fall out. |
Johnson & Johnson's detangler does work really well. I also use tresemee (sp) conditioner. |
Lillie matted alot when she was a puppy also. And...she didnt' like to get brushed. I would put cherrios on the counter as I was brushing her and kept telling her she was a good girl...even though she fought me! I use Cowboy Magic and a slicker brush. If I find a stubborn matt I put a drop of CM on the matt and work it in with my fingers. You can't just brush from the root to the end...you have to start from the end and work to the root. Don't take alot of hair...do little sections at a time. Now that Lillie is a big girl (14 months old) she doesn't mind brushing anymore. I will put her on my lap when I am watching tv, use the CM and brush her out. She doesn't get matted like she used to. You have to experiment with the CM...you don't want to use too much or they look like a little grease ball. I was told human products are too harsh for dogs. I found they it would drly out their skin to much and make them itchy. But, whatever use whatever works for you. |
