Please Help!!! I just picked up little rocky last night and put him in a cage before i went to bed...he has not stopped screaming all night long..at this point im ready to give in and let him sleep in bed with me. Any ideas?...thank you in advanced. |
Puppies will do this. It is really traumatic to leave their families and familiar surroundings. Is the crate in your room? This should help the puppy to feel more secure and safe. Other tips.. I have this beanie bag I got from Petsmart (petstages brand) that you microwave and put in the crate with them, it really helps. I would also fill a kong with just a tad of peanut butter which also helps to calm my pups down at least. I personally think crate training is a really important thing to do for any puppy/dog, so keep at it if you can. |
Yorkie girl thanks for the help and reassurance i will try all the things listed and let you know how tonight tonight turns out :) . Thanks. |
I agree, it may comfort your baby to put the crate in your room. At least till, your baby gets used to the new home. |
She gave you all the right information. Good luck. |
Thanks |
This must have been awful for you!! Honestly, my first few days with Molly were so rough I thought I might have made a mistake, that I wasn't a good dog owner and she would never be happy. But we made it thru and I can't imagine not having her! I hope tonight is better! |
I have Lillies crate in our bedroom. I made a nice fluffy pillow that fits the cage. I made her a little fleece blanket and put a toy in with her. I also put a blanket over (to completely cover the crate...except the front). The first 4 nights she cried and cried...I felt awful but, I knew it would have only taken once to give in to her and I would never get her to sleep in her crate. Sadie (my first furbaby) I made this mistake with...We let her sleep with us when we went on a weekend vacation. That's all it took...Sadie will not sleep in a crate at home...I do feel bad for Lillie...Sadie sleeps with us and she is in the crate. I do get Lillie out of her crate in the morning and put her in bed with us. If my parents puppy sit for a weekend she will sleep in her crate there but, not at home. She sleeps with us. I LOVE having her in bed with me but, she will sometimes get up during the night and walk on us...like we aren't there!..Silly little things! |

Isn't a crate plastic, and a cage is metal. |
i have a cage, should i be using plastic? |
Zoe cried a lot the first couple of nites - I felt bad but I put her in the office downstairs and shut the door so we couldn't hear her, at least not much. But it only lasted a day or two. I would personally stick with it even though it will mean a couple of tough nites. And a crate versus a cage.... to me a crate is a small kennel - mine is the one Zoe was shipped to us in. It is big enough for her to turn around a laydown down comfortably but that's about it. I would say a cage is larger and I usually think of a metal cage but they might come in different sizes. We only have a crate. Hope this helps. :) |

If you don't want him in your bed right now DON'T GIVE IN!! Once he's in your bed he probably won't want to go back into his crate...I know your pain with the crying and being up all night...Lillie would dose off once in a while and I could sleep a couple of hours then she would be up and crying again..Like I said...it was about 4 nights that this went on...I felt like I had a baby in the house again..(well, I guess I did!!) Believe me.....he will get used to it. There is light at the end of that tunnel! The only reason I don't let Lillie sleep with us is, my husband has restless leg syndrome and is a big man. she likes to sleep inbtween us and I am afraid he will hurt her. And...I don't get alot of sleep now with Sadie in bed with us...I would be up all night! Right now he is young. If you want him in bed with you I would wait until he is a little older...you wouldn't want him falling off of the bed. JMO |
