Finally going back to my local yorkie meetup And I'm scared to death. Last time I went there were so many comments on my Addie I went home in tears. A friend of mine wants to go with me and I know there are nice people there. The comments last time were "She's a tank? "How much does she weigh?" "She is huge" "People really shouldn't breed them bigger than the standard." Addie's parents were 4lbs and 6 lbs and Addie is 7. She looks a little bigger because her body is longer. All I had the guts for was to ask someone "Does it matter?" last time, but I feel like I need to arm myself with reply's to shut them up this time. Anyone have any suggestions? |
No suggestions, but they sound stuck up. What is a Local Yorkie Meet-up? |
Wow what the hell is wrong with people? I can't believe anyone would ever say that to you! I had only one person so far make a disparaging comment about my dogs and I calmly told them that if I wanted their opinion I would ask for it so in the meantime would they please stick it where the sun don't shine. I think you should just go in there with your head held high and don't let ANYONE bring you down. Your dog is not big! My Yorkie is the same weight (7lbs) and there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. Those people must have some really teeny tiny dogs. You should just let them know that breed standard is anything up to 7lbs and that your dog is exactly where it should be! As for the "they shouldn't breed them so big" comment... Grrr! I'd say they shouldn't breed them so small. I do have a dog that is under 5lbs but everyone knows that the smaller the dog, the more likeliness there is she/he might have some health issues. Let them know that! Gosh I'm so riled up now lol I just can't believe the rudeness of some people! Just terrible! :thumbdown Good luck with your meet! And don't let anyone make you feel bad about your baby! She is beautiful, healthy, and you love her. That is all that should matter! |
The REAL Tank.... 1 Attachment(s) IF you wish, I can bring Chelsea, at her last vet weigh in she was 20.6....LET THEM call this one names....LOL I say go, have fun and ignore ignorant dog owners! We all have opinions, like we all have belly buttons, but you ALWAYS find rude people in this world. Check out this picture of the "tank".... |
Your tank is beautiful! What gorgeous colouring! :D |

1 Attachment(s) THANK YOU! She has certainly stolen our hearts. This is my first Yorkie, and everyday is an adventure with her. I do have to state, SINCE her vet visit in April, she is now down to 18 lbs. Her Vet didnt fall for her excuse...WATER WEIGHT! LOL! As a young puppy, she would crawl up to my shoulder and sleep on it, cuddle in my neck, she STILL thinks she is little, and tries it...CRACKS ME UP! :D |
As far as comebacks----- I learned a very handy trick growing up with a verbally abusive S-father. Everytime someone says an "off" comment, you smile and say, nice and clearly: "I'm sorry, could you please repeat that?" Usually by now others are listening and the original commenter is embarassed. If they do repeat it, simply, slowly say: "Interesting opinion." And turn and walk away. You don't have defend the size of your dog to anyone. Stay above those rude and mis-informed losers. |

Please don't worry about the size of your baby or what stupid people say. If they really knew what they were takling about they would know Yorkies come in all sizes. My Coco is about 7lbs and Coffee about 12 lbs. Coffee is so highly pedigreed it's scarry!! His Father and Grandfather are South African champions, who come from a long line of U.K. champions. His brothers and sisters are champions, all the dogs on his mothers side are champions. His parents and grandparents weigh about 5lbs - and look what I got - a BIG BEAUTIFUL Yorkie:D All the more to love. Grrr I get so mad with these people - we have them here in S.A too Ignore them:) |
A VERY angelic face....ROFLMBO!!! I loved your wise words....its like taking the wind out of their sails, rude folks would have no comeback, with your adivse. Really makes them look like fools, and I agree, no one has to defend the size of their baby. GOOD ADVICE! :) |

You can take the high road and use this as an opportunity to educate others. It sounds like your baby is perfectly within yorkie standards of 4-7 pounds. Perhaps it's their babies that have been breed by these breeders trying to create tiny tea cups. Maybe some of these rude folks need to understand that they may be the one outside of the boundaries--- I can say that :D Roxie is only 3 1/2 pounds so she's below avg. I guess ;) |
Aw I'm sorry your local meetup wasn't nice last time. Lacy is 7lbs too and that is still such a small dog! I went to the Dallas meetup this month and Lacy was one of the biggest yorkies there - but of course it was a YorkieTalk meetup so everyone was nice there :) 7lbs is still within the standard anyway. You should get that shirt for your dog that has a yorkie in a teacup with an X through it..LOL You would think at a yorkie meetup, they would love all yorkies from tiny to over standard. |
Oh I love her. She is so pretty. Sophie is a big girl to and she would love to be able to play with Chelsea. :) Quote:
