Keeping Computer Wires Safe? O_O I seriously seriously need to start puppy-proofing my apartment if I'm getting a puppy soon. My fiance and I are very techy, so we have two computers a laptop, every game console imaginable... you get the picture. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to keep computer wires and such away from a puppy? I can lock up the controllers, but as for the wires behind the tv and desks, I'm not really sure what to do with them. Help? :D |
Some people reccommend Bitter Apple. We had a thread about this sometime ago. I will look and see if I can find it for you:)! |
Thank you! I would love the link, if you can find it. :) So Bitter Apple actually works, huh? I'd heard about it in the past, but I wasn't sure how reliable it was. |

Heres one, http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...computer+wires maybe this can help! |
Tech Widow Advice... they make these plastic tube-y things you can gather them in. they even have some you can mount on the wall. (hubby got this thing from lowe's/home depot. don't know how much it cost...) keep the wires away from the puppies' favorite romping areas. see if you have a plug behind something they cant get to and bring it UP over the surface (ie: couch). some of our wires (for the speakers) we had the carpet guys lay under the carpet before they installed it. and don't leave them just lying around when you leave. this is where we had trouble. it doesn't seem to be so bad as they get older, but absolutely when they are teething the cords are so chewy and delicious!! |
Me and my hubby have put up a big piece of cardboard behind our computer desk for now,my little Jack loves cords:rolleyes: he has chewed my external harddrive cord into, also my computer mouse cord, and my usb cord that went to my digital camera, I told him "You better be glad you are so freaking cute or I would be angry:D " He has grown out of alot of it, but I still keep a close eye on him.:) |
If you have carpeting you can run the wires under them, and then get the tube stuff for where they come together. |
Ohh yes, Bitter Apple works. I speak from experience Teddy tore up my Ipod charger, my printer cable, and a couple of other high tech things. On a good day the printer cable works, I just have to move in the right direction, and the ipod charger is just dead. Luckily I got my iphone a few days ago, and the iphone charger works for both the ipod and iphone. First and foremost, try to put everything up that is reachable, and then spray the bitter apple. |
We got the plastic things from Home Depot in the wiring department. They are like plastic tubes that have a slit in the back and you push your wires into them. They come in varying lengths and you can cut them with a sharp kitchen knife...they are also paintable, and come in varying thicknesses so you can get them for one wire or many. Good thinking ahead about your furbaby...I can tell you'll be a great mom! |
P.S. We found this out after two X-Box 360 controller wires, a cell phone charger, i-Pod charger wire, and computer router "bit" the dust:cool: |
We hid as many wires as possible under the carpet and blocked off all areas where wires were accessible to them. Bitter Apple did not deter Cali in the least. she liked it!!!! |
I tried the plastic tube things from Home Depot/Lowes but still needed more control. I went on line and bought a couple packages of Cable Tamers, I think that is what they are called. They come with plastic ties, twisties, and the plastic tube things. It really controlled my cord clutter and kept Gracie out of it. I use the tube thingys for things like lamp cords. I use the cord tamers for my stereo cords/wires, home theatre, etc. If I cant tame it or cover it, I use gel deodorant on it. Gracie can't stand that stuff. Good luck! Here is one at Amazon.com. You can also get them at Office Depot http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Tamer-Pl...7744348&sr=8-2 |
you could also try hard plastic wire covers from the auto parts store |
