Puppy Daycare Rules and Expense Can anyone tell me how much it costs for puppy daycare? Also, are there any rules such as proof of innoculations, what to bring, etc.? I would love to have a puppy daycare in my home - limited to just a few small breed dogs but I don't have any idea how to get started. I have a huge fenced in yard and a puppy proofed house with one room that would be ideal for the puppies. By "puppies" I of course mean any age. I wonder if there are rules for having a puppy daycare in your home. Does anyone have any answers to these questions? :) |
What a great idea. I don't know anything about the rules you would have to follow to get a license for doggie day care. I do know that it costs $55 / day for me to take my four to day care. |
From what I have seen, it is about $23 a day for doggie daycare in an actual daycare facility. Home daycare can be as low as $8 a day (which is really the low end). The rules that I have seen say all dogs must be spayed or neutered and current on vaccines. These dogs must be friendly and there are rules about biting/growling. It would also be a good idea to get bonded and insured. I am not sure how to go about that though. |
In CA, its $55 a day. But the one I want to take Teddy to, offers a special private rooms for owners who want dogs to themselves and such. They also offer grooming, walking, etc. |
I don't know, but do you have to be licensed? |

Right now this is just in the thinking stages, but I'm liking the idea. :) |
Sookie, too bad you don't leave nearby, for sure we could use an inhome care a few days a week to socialize and alleviate lonliness for Zoe. |

Daycare here is $18 a day and $10 for a half day (under 5 hours). They have playtime, are walked a few times during the day, have a snack time, and a nap time. Dogs have to be spayed/neutered, current on all vaccinations and bordetella, and supposed to be on regular flea preventative (dogs with fleas get a capstar at the expense of the owner). Most daycares do behavioral testing before the dog can be involved in the playgroups. Anytime dogs are together, there MUST be someone there watching in case a fight breaks out. So if it's just you there, dog's will need to be separated if you walk them individually or can't watch them the whole time. You definitely have to make sure dogs can't escape and like I said they'll need constant supervision to make sure everyone is safe and playing nicely. It would probably be best for each dog to have it's own area for naptime as well so the dogs get some rest halfway through the day. |
Each dog at the one near me is 15 dolalrs a day, and they have to be fixed. And of coarse up to date on shots. |
My puppy goes to daycare and it only costs 9.60 a day. It's at the vet's office too! He gets one play group per day with dogs of his same size. I'm lucky that two other yorkies go to the same daycare so he plays with them. He also gets a nap time and they feed him the same food I do so not to mess up his eating habits. They keep him from 6:30am to same time pm. But I usually pick him up by 4. He had to be current on his shots and take flea meds. He's a puppy so they didn't say anything about being fixed. But he's getting fixed when he's old enough! |
pet paradise there's this place called pet paradise... it looks like a luxury resort for dogs. Dog And Cat Boarding And Day Care - Jacksonville, Ormond Beach, Palm Coast, St. Augustine, Sanford Florida, New Orleans, Louisianna and Houston, Texas they have day care, and also overnight boarding... they charge $18 for the first dog and $12 for each additional dog. they have the basic room, and you can pay more to upgrade to a suite or something like that. there's a dog bone-shaped pool, too! lol. i might take Kash there once a week when it's done being built... but $18 a week adds up! :) |
Hi, I am in NJ too and I send MIlo to Doggy Day Care one day a week, I pay $28.00 for the day and buy a 10 pack so it is a discounted rate. Anytime you open a business you need to register yourself with the state and get a licence this is not only to protect you but your clients as well, I am sure you will need special insurance for this. I had called several places before deciding on where to send MIlo and this is what happened. They came to my house to interview us in his normal surroundings, then I had to bring him there and leave him for a few hours to see how he does with other dogs there was an interview fee as well. All dogs must be up to date on all there shots with proof from the Vet including Bordatella and must be spayed/neutered. The large dogs are kept in one area, and the smaller dogs are kept in another. Milo Loves it he gets to play with dogs all day long. he is so tired when he gets home I have to wake him up for his last walk. I hope this helps. |
arg! i hate Ca sometimes! it is 30-60 dollars daily for me to put my girl in adaycare around here...wish someone was opening a cheaper home one by me :( |
I think if you want to start a daycare you will have to be in an area that is zoned for business and has no pet limits or restrictions. You will also need insurance and you'd most likely need to check with your homeowners insurance to see if that's allowed -- if the zoning and limit laws allow for you to have a business like that in your home. You would also need to apply for a business license (to pay state taxes), tax id and the like I would assume. I've seen daycare prices go from 10-50 a day depending on location and amenities. Current Vaccinations are always required from my experience for all dogs that are allowed to go to daycare for insurance purposes. |
