Cracking Joints? I've noticed a lot lately that Linus's joints crack a little when I pick him up. I'm being careful with him, but when I pull him into my chest, I hear these little cracking noises. Any ideas? He's also been having some breathing problems lately (sounds like reverse sneezing into a microphone...or an 80 year old smoker). He does it about 4-5 times a day and it's getting louder and more frequent. Help, my baby is breaking! ;) |
Is it his legs cracking? |
I'm not sure. That's what I think it is, but I don't feel anything move on him. I just hear it. |
I heard that cracking sound on Missy before too so I mentioned it to her vet at one of her apt.s and he checked her back legs by placing his hand on her back leg and moving it down gently so the leg straightens. He found one of her legs pops when it straightens, the condition she has is called Luxating Patella and it can be common in small breeds. I haven't done much research on it so I cant offer you anymore, but maybe you can check his back legs to see if that's where the cracking sound is coming from. If that's not it I have no idea what it could be, but I doubt your baby is breaking ;) |
I was getting concerned that that is what it was too. I have heard about that before but didn't know what the warning signs of it were. I'm just getting concerned because it seems like he has all of these problems all at once. He's not acting differently. He's walking and eating just fine, just as playful and loving as ever. Just some strange little things that don't seem to be bothering him but worry the heck out of me. |
It could be his knees. Maggie knees were checked by her vet, and so far they are good. The only cracking now that we hear, are my cracking joints. |

LOL!!! Too funny... :) |
My yorkies legs crack sometimes when I go to pick him up too. Our vet says that he has luxating patellas, but they don't seem to be very serious. They must be a very low grade because they don't cause him any pain, and he never has problems walking or running or jumping. |
What did your vet say about the longterm effects in your baby? I hope things are ok with him! |
Not luxating patellas This may be totally different from what you are experiencing with your dog but I thought I would mention that Mya had a little clicking noise in her hock (ankle). My vet said it was NOT luxating patella. He said not to give her calcium such as tums because the latest research shows that extra calcium makes arthritis worse or can contribute to it when the dog gets older. He said the spoonful of yogurt a day was fine that I was giving her. He added that If I was really worried that I could give her gulcosamine but assured me that it was nothing to worry about. My knees have cracked since I was 3 years old. They sound much worse than the occasional "click" from Mya. |
He's got a vet appt. on Monday so I'm hoping that they just tell me that it's just something that small, but I'm so scared for him right now. Because of all of this, we have decided to get him spayed and not stud him like we had originally planned. So no more surgery than that hopefully! I'm still freaking out though. |
Mya's mom, that's good information...My vet diagnosed him with luxating patellas when he was a pup, and then I started noticing his knees crack when I go to pick him up every once in awhile. I don't know if it's the same noise, but it's good to know that it might not be that serious. |
