Has anyone seen this before My Little Betty is just over 5mths old now. She is 1 of my Missys puppys who I decided to keep:) , she is a real doll. Well after I got her fully weaned of mama she decided that she still liked to have a suckle, but because mama was having none of it, she decided that me fingers would do the trick. Well now she is totally addicted to my fingers. When she sits on my knee she will lick each finger and then decide which one she would like to suck. She will suck and suck and suck until she falls asleep. I have a hubby and 2 girls she will never do it to them.:confused: . Well its getting to the point now that when I go to pet her all she whats to do is suckle my finger. Im trying to put a stop to this as I think she is getting a little to old for it, plus her teeth are getting really big. Put I just dont have the heart. When i hide my hands she is scraping at me to get at them. Im trying my best to keep the sucking to night time, its working a little:D . She is so cute and my freinds have said they have never seen anything like this before. What about you guys, have any of you.:confused: |
my yorkie doesn't do this but my boyfriend's sisters chi suck her thumb at night when she's going to sleep just like a baby...crazy but so cute. |
I never heard of this, but it doesn't mean it's unusual. Enjoy it while she still does. |
It is cute, our Peanut did that too at first. They will do it much, much more when they start teething badly and start nibbling... If you let them... You have to limit the amount that you let them do that. Start pulling your hand away a little and ignore it and give a toy, bone, or something instead. Don't let it become a very bad habit... they are most impressionable when they are younger and will decided that it's ok for the rest of their life... It's tough love, but you gotta do it |

You could give her a toy to suck on. After she chooses the finger, let her suck for a minute and then gently replace it with her toy. |
Yes I will enjoy it while I can. It is so sweet to think that our little furbutts love us all so much. |
My shih poo likes to lick my neck for a few minutes before he goes to sleep at night. I think its a "soothing" thing for him, and it doesn't bother me, so I don't worry about it. |
one of the boys I used to babysit for had a cat that would do that. He was only 5 or 6 and sucked his thumb too. It was too funny to watch with one of his thumbs in his own mouth and the other in the cats mouth. I always thought it was because he was taken away from his mom when he was too young. (the kitten that is...) :) |
I have no "suckers" but I have the maltese that has to have her licks at her daddy's face before she can settle down at night. He doesn't mind so she get her nightly licks in and he gets a clean face. :D :D I wonder if like with a "furkid" the sucking can affect the way the secondary teeth may come in????:confused: :confused: :confused: |
