Going to Florida - carrier 1/2" too tall!!! Kalina and I are going to Florida in September and I just called and made a reservation. :) YAY!! I can't wait! We have a condo on Marco, but haven't been there since we got Kalina. I am traveling USA3000 and they said the carrier must be 10 1/2H x 18L x 11W. My Celltei carrier is "airline approved", it's the Tote-o-Pet Size Small but it is 11"H. The other measurements are smaller than the maximum allowable. I had the same problem before when I picked her up in Indianapolis, but that was a teeny 50 seater plane and I was using a hard pet carrier, not soft like the Celltei. Do you think I can get by with a carrier that is 1/2" too tall? I'd hate to have to go buy ANOTHER carrier - I have 3 already and I've only had Kalina for a couple of months. This carrier is the only one of the three that is airline approved and so I really don't know what to do!! Did any of you get by with one that was 1/2" too tall?? Do they actually measure?? |
I would say if it is soft sided it will be OK. It just has to fit under the seat in front of you. We flew to Florida 3 weeks ago, and mine was 1/2 to tall, nobody measured, but it wasn't completely softsided (it had a frame because you could roll it like luggage) so we had a little bit of a hard time squishing it under the seat in front of us. I've flown with her twice and no one has ever measured the carrier. |
You should be fine. Last time I flew, my bag was a little big, but as long as I could stuff it in the "measuring box", the lady said I was fine. Since your bag is only a 1/2 inch bigger, you could just push the top down a little if they make you fit it in one of those measuring box things. |
Some airports have those boxes that they have you put the pet carrier in to see if it fits, so if you have a soft sided one you won't have a problem fitting it in the box or under the seat. |
Thank You!! |
Marco Island is just beautiful. I hope you have a nice time down here. |
I've never flew with Bengi yet, but I'm in Florida anyway :). Hope you have a great time in Marco island, it's so nice there. I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow to Ft Myers Bch, I'm soooooo excited too :D!!!!!!!!! |
I have the Celltei "Tote-a-Pet" too and just flew for the first time on American Airlines w/ my puppy. Since the bag is flexible I had no trouble fitting it under the seat in front of me even though it is technically too tall. I spoke w/ the owner at Celltei when I ordered mine and she specifically said that the bags are made to be flexible for this reason. Also, no one at the airport ever checked my bag. I think, if anything, they would simply look at it and not actually measure it. Good luck! |
I have flown 3 times with dogs and no one has measured my bag yet. I know that mine is technically too tall for most airlines also, but it would fit under the seat easy enough. If I take the wheels off the bottom (requires two pair of pliers) then my bag would be okay. Traveled the first time without the wheels and told myself NEVER AGAIN! The wheels make it so much easier getting through the airport and it is actually smoother for the dogs than being off the ground and not quite horizontal while I carry the bag. |
