Wellness feeders... I took Zoe to the vet last week for itchy skin and brought a list of ingredients of foods she eats. He says Barley (the #4 ingredient in WEllness brand) is high on food allergy list and he doesn't understand why food makers would put this in the food and that I should write to them about this? Anyone else know anything about this ingredient? |
No I do not but I am curious to see as oneof my friends was just recommended Wellness for her babies sensitive tummy. She is a member here so Ill have her come look at this and hope you get some replies! Good thread! |
Are you talking about regular Wellness or the "Simple Solutions" Wellness blends, which are intended for allergies? |
Im not sure Tdessauer was told Wellness for Boston being he has sensitive belly, not sure which one she is looking into starting him on or which one has all the Barley. Im gonna call her and have her come take a look at this being I didnt even know there were 2 different kinds! |
I feed her wellness chicken super 5 mix and the fish mix, which are the regular line...which is what the vet was looking at. |
I have been feeding my babies the Wellness chicken super 5 mix after switching over from Eukaneuba and have not seen any changes in their behavior, as in itching , or any other signs of allergy. I did not know this about the barley ingredient and will keep a close eye on mine for allergies. I will also tell my extended " Yorkie Families " to do the same, as Wellness brand is what I have been recommending to anyone adopting a puppy from us. |
Not all dogs are allergic to the same things. Some do great on a product that others would not. When you do find what works best for your own dog, then I'd suggest staying with it rather than trying some other product because it was praised by someone else. Mine eat a very basic home cooked diet, so if ever I give them a new "real" food nummy and they break out and itch, I'll know exactly what it was. We just got over an allergy itching episode with sardines packed in water. Guess we stick to grilled fresh salmon for them once in awhile since they have no problem with it. |
yup, that's what our vet said, barley is high on the his list of things that could cause allergies, BUT it did not mean that all dogs will have an allergic reaction to it. He says the same thing, find a food that works and stick to it. The only thing he really said to stay way from were wheat, soy, corn. So we went ahead and did an expensive blood test to see if in fact barley bothers her along with 15 other items to see what she maybe allergic to. I think it's just the San Diego area, as I too have had allergies since living here. When I went to Hawaii a few months ago, I have absolutely NO allergies the week we were there. So that could be a factor too, pollen etc. I sure hope we find the culprit. I too give her 1/2 her meals as homecooked meals and the other 1/2 with dry kibble. Yorkiedaze, what do you use to flavor your grilled salmon? |
