clipping nails hoe often do you clip your :aimeeyork 's nails? |
If your doggie gets plenty of exercise, I don't think it's necessary to clip his nails because they will wear down through contact with the ground. I'm afraid I can't give you a precise answer to your question as my two dogs do a lot of walking, so I'm not sure how often they should be clipped if they don't exercise enough. |
I doubt there is a precise answer anyhow. I really appreciate your input. I do recall hearing that if you can hear them tapping on the floor when they walk, that they are too long....but I still wasnt sure if there was more to it than that. Mine is still learning to take to the leash. My first visit to the vet, the sub there that day mentioned keeping them clipped to help the quick recede. So I am in new territory. |
I had the same question, so I am glad you posted it. |
I try to take a nip every week when I bathe her. I dont' do long walks because of the damn mosquitos so her nails do grow. |
I trim about every couple of weeks. Tillys nails grow super fast. |
i have trouble trimming my babies nails too. it's my fault for not training them to get used to it. is it true that you can file down their nails with an nail filer? |
Cora's nails grow very fast and straight. Her daycare owner is also a Groomer so I have her do nail clips in between Cora's regular grooming. Rupert seems to wear his down so I just wait for his grooming. Years ago, I cut the quick on my Min-Pin. She (and me,too!) was so traumatized that the clipping had to be done by the Vet for the rest of her life. so, now I leave it to the Groomers! |
i do it about every two weeks becaue although i take him outside his front paws dont wear down as much as the back leg one's. So only cut the front ones |
Im too scared to clip her nails. I always fear I'll cut to far down! |
Thanks everyone for your help...I feel more comfortable with how to decide when to do it. |
nails I trimmed their nails once, and my female started bleeding. It scared the heck out of me, and I have never done it again. They walk a lot on the pavement, and that helps keep them trimmed. Usually, I take them to the groomer every few months and have it done. |
