Have your groomer or vet show you. It looks easy (I haven't tried it yet). The hair that grows out of their ear-holes, they take tweezers and grab a wad and pull it gently out. It doesn't seem to bother them. They don't really charge for it, so if you have a vet or grooming appt, just mention it. |
I pluck both Missy & Max's. The ear hair usually sticks together so its easy to pull it with tweezers and quiet a few come out with one pluck. I only pluck 2 or 3 times and the majority of it's gone. They dont seem bothered by it at all, I think they even enjoy it, as crazy as that seems. When I am doing Missys she sits there really nice and still and Max is at my feet crying to get his turn, then I do his and he sits nice and quietly. I'd say give it a try and if it looks like it caused them discomfort and your not comfortable then leave it to the groomers but if you pluck and they show no reaction you could make it part of your home grooming ;) good luck! |
What if you trim the hairs with scissors? Would that work too or do they have to be plucked? |

That sound like a better idea! To mee too ! Let me know if it will work I could do that!!! :) |
I never thought about trimming them lol :p I think trimming would be more work than plucking, plucking sounds like too much work or like it might be painful but it really isnt, its so easy and your done in seconds. ;) |
The plunking is pretty easy and there's no way it feels like plucking eyebrows on your face because I get no reaction of pain when I do it. I do it while Trace is sleeping on my lap, now sometimes he will act like I am disturbing his nap. Gentle tugs is all it takes. I do have a question. How much do you take out? All of it, half of it, some of it? |
are we talking about the tiny hairs kind of disperssed INSIDE the ear? Or is this the hair around the rim of the ears? If anyone has an illustration or picture of where on the ear the hair is plucked, that would be great. I need "ear hair plucking for dummies"..haha |
It's the hair located in the ear canel. Bend your pup's ear backwards, it'll stick straight up. |
Don't put scissors inside your puppies ear. The hair ON the ear, you would shave the upper third and trim around the sides. The hair inside is sorta fuzzy-like. You can pull it out with tweezers, at the vet they grab a bunch at a time, no reaction from the dog. |
