Very shy cautious pup! I just recently purchased a beautiful 16wk old yorkie male puppy. Unfortunately he never wants to come out from under the table, he sleeps constantly and when he is awake he seems scared and overly cautious. I have had him for a week, is this normal? I had a Yorkie puppy before from the same breeder and he was adjusted, playful and affectionate upon meeting him. Anyone have words of advice? |
Maybe he just wasn't socialized at the breeder's place - did you see how he was kept there? I think some little guys are just more shy at first too, just takes them longer like some of us goofy humans. Give him little treats, say his name like it solved world peace, cuddle, play w/ toys, get down on his level, let him give kisses. He'll come 'round. |
Have you had him to the vet yet to make sure he's okay? How is he eating? Maybe he wasn't very socialized at the breeder, so it might take time. I would keep being affectionate and talk softly to him.....even if you have to get under the table with him lol |
I would try getting under the table with him, and play and cuddle with him, so he becomes familiar with you. Keep us updated. |
I bought a puppy five months ago and he was exactly the same way. So much so, that I hired a dog behavorist to come to my home and show me how to deal with this behavor. After a couple of sessions I saw a great improvement. He will always be shy and a little fearful of people he doesn't know because that is his personality, but he is totally different with me. It will take time but he will come around. |
