APR Registered Puppies How should one feel if a dog is APR registered versus some of the others registered forms? Probably should not matter much if your only purpose is to have the dog as a pet only? |
apri reg I think its ok for a pet only. In my opinion unless a dog is AKC reg all the other regerstrys are bogus, any dog can register so please dont pay alot for a pet and get a health guaranteefor any registered pup!:) |
i dont think all the other ones are bogus but i do think AKC is the best. My skoshi is ACA and i love him and wouldnt feel any different if he was AKC, Its really on your own personal beliefs but some people wont buy dogs that arent AKC and some it doesnt matter |
The only reputable registries in the US are AKC and UKC - the others were created to register dogs that couldn't be registered with AKC or UKC. There are so many registries now and basically any mix off the street can be registered for a fee. Lacy is actually APR registered - at the time I got her I didn't care about registration and just wanted a puppy. I will only buy AKC registered puppies from now on though as I plan to buy from a show breeder next time I get a yorkie (which will be in a few years unfortunately). If someone doesn't care about the lineage of their puppy and just wants a pet quality puppy, then I guess it doesn't matter if they are registered or not but only backyard breeders use a registration such as APR |
I agree AKC and UKC are the top registries, however if your baby is your pet, and you're not going to show or breed it doesn't matter what their registered. Their still the most lovable animal on four legs. |
Apr I do not think the price should be the same as an AKC puppy..it should be much less. |
I don't think the registry matters so much as the "quality" of the dog. APRI is one of the better newer registries IMHO. They have dog shows, put on seminars and do not register just any dog. APR on the other hand will let you register mixed "designer" breeds as long as both the parents are registered purebreds. You can do a search and read up on most of the different registries out there and what the requirements are. APRI also has a forum where you can learn from others much like you can here. AKC and UKC are probably the oldest registries but I have seen a lot of dogs that are AKC registered that most definitely dont meet the standard. Also before they started requiring DNA testing there were a lot of puppies registered AKC that weren't even purebred although I am sure the purchaser of the puppies thought they were because they had AKC papers. If you want to show your dog in an AKC dog show to work toward getting an AKC champion title then don't buy unless it is AKC registered. Otherwise, just make sure the pup you purchase is healthy with good temperament and don't worry about the "papers." JMHO One more thing - as far as you shouldn't pay as much for a dog that is not AKC? - again IMO - I would rather pay for a good dog that I will be happy to share my home with for years to come then to pay for a sheet of paper with its name on it. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
I agree that quailty and health are #1. I have also seen AKC pups that are not to the standard. I would look for a breeder you like, that will be there for you after the sale to answer any questions you might have. A good health guarantee and be able to see the parents and how the pups are raised. If you are going to show then AKC is the way to go. I think the price should be based on the quality of the pup. |
