Flea treatment for 1 pound puppy Jack has been scratching a lot the past few days so I was looking through his fur and I found a few fleas! He is 8 weeks and 1 pound. I bathed him but they were back within a few hours, I think that the grass outside must have fleas in it. I know they don't sell anything for a puppy this small so I called the vet to see what I could do. They said I could comb a little flea powder through his fur and treat the house and the grass for fleas. Has anyone ever treated a puppy this small for fleas? Also, does anyone know if he can get sick from me spraying the house and his bed etc.? Please let me know, Thanks! |

I would be careful with the spraying he is awful small. You can bathe him with dawn dishsoap and that will kill the fleas |

I agree dawn dish soap will do it. I have used that on a litter of kittens that we saved. They were to young for anything else. But it worked so well, the fleas just fell off. |

I know with the Revolution it would like for you to be 2 lbs. Have you tried calling a vet?? |

I agree with the Dawn dish soap treatment... Clean all bedding and vacuum carpet inside.... You should treat the outside grass with something(?).... I'd keep Jack inside the house until he is older/bigger... (or until the bugs take a break!! ;) ) Best of luck! |

When i worked at the shelter we used Ectofoam (spelling?) on tiny kittens and puppies. It killed the fleas. Dawn dish soap also works but make sure you get it all off. I'd have the yard treated as well since you most likely won't be able to put a product like frontline on him for another couple months. You can also treat the carpets, and wash all the bedding. |

I put the leafs around the yard and the bedding. but hes so small. id be washing the house like everyone said. and then you have to repeat in a couple of weeks...its a problem,(I know well) but if you get a good hold they dont come back. sorry for the little one.. we hate to see them scratching.:dogsm2: |

Thanks so much everyone for your input! I think I may just try keeping him inside for a while, but do you think I will have a problem training him to go outside when he's a little older if he's already used to pottying on the pads? |
