When Do They Stop Growing? I went to a pet apparel store yesterday, and everyone was making a big deal about how tiny Luigi is. I haven't weighed him for awhile, but he's not much bigger than when I first got him. I think he's about 3 lbs, and he's 5 months. The girls working at the store told me he may not get much bigger. Just wondering if anyone knows when yorkies generally stop growing and remain the size (proportion wise/weight wise/etc) they'll be through adulthood? I know there are fluctuations with weight and all that throughout time, but generally speaking...is there an age where they finally get to the size they'll probably be the rest of their lives? |
well for chubby at around 3 months he was about 4 is lb and around a yr he was 3.5 lb hes food situation changed nothing but dry food then at 15 months he was 4.8 lb and 2 wks later which is today he weighed in at 3.8 lb he need to do some dental work so he got weighed... i really can't tell anymore if he stop growing or if he just ate alot on the day i took him to get weighed at 15 months |
i think it's around 7-10 months? someone correct me if i'm wrong. and let me tell you, i'm so glad edgar stopped when he did! (he's so big!!) |
Growth Yorkies and other small dogs can still be growing at 18 months |
We'll you sure got a lot of different answers. Personally I have no idea. |
I dont think 3 pounds at 5 months is all that small. Diggy is almost 6 months now and is just over 3 pounds by a few ounces. I think he is very average or alittle below for this age. Yorkies are no different than humans, I think thats the reason for all these different answers. Human females are supposed to be done growwing at 14-16, I on the other hand grew until I was 18 and Im 5-9 now my sister is 5-1 and never grew past 5th grade ??? Same mom same dad and both of my parents are around 5-6. Ya just never know. Bella my 2 year old girl has not grown since 6 months old (she is 4.11) nor have her 2 sisters who are in my immediate family, all 3 girls just stopped right around 6-7 months. Now Diggy has really slowed in the growing he was gaining like a 3/4 a pound a month (he was less than a pound when I got him:( ) but since he hit 4 months he has really slowed down. Maybe he will hit a spurt here pretty quick but not looking good. I was hoping for a bigger boy but as long as he is healthy Im happy. My vet said he wont get much over 4 pounds, but who knows Very hard to predict! |
