urgent..in heat or no? thought i would post it here too, since more people view this section. mocha is almost a year old (turns 1 on the 23rd) and she has not had her first heat yet. is this abnormal? i've heard many get their first heat around 6 months, but she shows no symptoms, unless i've missed it. she's been licking down there and marked, but i haven't seen any blood anywhere nor is she swollen. she has the same energy that she's had since she was 3 months old. i'm a little bit terrified and confused as i thought she should have had it by now. any suggestions or advice? thanks. |
some dogs do not go into heat until a year. |
ohh..ookay. phew. is it blatantly obvious? i'm guessing it is with all the bleeding and mood swings and physical changes. i just didn't want to be the worst mommy in the world and not know if she's going through it or not. |
she will lick like crazy and be very very swollen. but you dont always see blood. some girls keep them selves very clean. |
I have a year old almost female who hasn't had her first heat yet. It frequently doesn't happen--1st heat until they are 13-15 months for toy breeds. |
are you planning on breeding her? If so, it doesn't sound like you are prepared. If not I would suggest you get her spayed ASAP!!! |
no i do not plan on breeding her. she is getting spayed as soon as i get her back next week (she is with my bf). the reason why she's getting spayed so late is because i'm a college student and i didn't have enough money for the procedure. now that i do, i'm finally getting it done. it may seem like i'm not prepared because she is my first puppy and i haven't had any prior experience. many of the books that i have read have said some get their first heat as young as 6 months, and mocha has not. this is why i was worried and decided to ask. |
no question is stupid. |
Good luck with the spaying... Sounds like you really care about her. |
