Those of you who have made dog blankets by... tying the two pieces of fabric together. I made two , but from some pictures that others have received for the YT gift exchange, I don't think I tied my together right. Mine don't look like most of them. A lady at Joann Fabric told me to tie in square knot, left over right then right over left. How did you do yours? |
I put the fabric around my fingure and then looped over my finger to tie it, but when I push it back, I push it back to where the decorative fabric is on the top. ( I After I looped it over my finger I turn the decorative fabric side to the top then push it in) Kinda hard to explain, hope this sorda helps... |
I have the stuff to make one, too and I have forgotten how you get the fringe cut just right. Do you use a template, mark it, or what. What is the easiest way?? |
can you post a picture? |
I want to learn how to make one of these! Everyone says it's so easy, and I've seen some gorgeous ones! I want to make one for Jake and one for the new puppy. |

Here are some directions. http://www.exploringwomanhood.com/ho.../pom-jan03.htm As far as making the fringe do you all just eyeball it or measure each one or what? |

i used a template...just took a business card and cut it to the size i would want the fringe and used that to cut the size of the fringe. it came out cute..i will post pics tomorrow. like i said...my biggest problem was the corners. haven't quite figured that one out yet. :( |
ah, just read the instructions on that link. i will try my corners that way :) |

One set of directions said to tie the bottom left corner to the top right corner and vice versa. That way the corners work out better. (these are on the same corner, mind you, not opposite sides of the blanket, hee hee) As for cutting the corners you cut a 4 inch square from each corner, or however many inch square as the length you are making the fringe. Hope this helps! I also saw a hint about putting masking tape all around the edges 4 inches in so they are all cut the same length. I was wondering about the easiest way to get the width of all the fringe the same without having to measure and mark. Maybe I will use my rotary cutter. |
I couldn't figure out the whole knot thing...what the heck is a square knot anyway??? I just tied them all the same and I think it looks pretty good. :) I used masking tape and I marked dots on the masking tape for each cut. The masking tape showed me how deep to make the cut, and the dots told me how far apart to cut. I also cut a square at each corner. Just make it the way you like it. :) |
I made a set for my SB in the Gift exchange. So I am sure they will post pics. I dont use templates or anything as I find some of the fabrice is really stretchy like the anti-pill seems to be much more stretchy than regular fleece so they never seem to tie the same anyway. I have made a pillows, dog beds, blankets from 3 yards to 1/4 yards. I even made my buddy a stuffed toy like thing for the GE, I hoe they post lots of picd so you get to see them! |
I made two of them also. I wasn't crazy about the fringes for fear that Holly would want to tear it apart but she actually liked it. I went back to reinforce after reading the instructions. Like some of you. I stuck some marked masking tape and used that to cut. I was going to buy one, but it was soooo fun to pick out my own fabric and make it myself. It gives it a personal touch and you are a bit more fond of it. Not to mention, it is much less expensive but very rewarding. Thanks for the instructions Little Bit. You Rock! |

I've made several of these no-sew dog blankets. I use masking tape to mark how deep to cut the fringe and just "sight" how wide to make each cut, about an inch wide. I went nuts trying to follow the instructions for tying the fringe and finally just tied each knot the same way and went on. It worked fine and they look good. I made one that's black on one side and white on the other and the fringe is really pretty. I made a red one with a white Bichon on it, too. My Lacy and Cosmo love their fleece blankets. |
I did not use a template or anything. I just cut it how I thought and tied the knot. Hope it stays together. I made one for the GE too. |
