naptime. . .??? How often should a 3 1/2 month yorkie pup sleep during the day? |
It depends on the puppy. I let mine sleep as much as they wanted at that age ... which was most of the day. |
molly is 4 and 1/2 mths and she takes a couple naps during the day, she also sleeps all night from 9pm -7am. |

HI, so he is not sleeping at night? or do you just need him to nap during the day? see all my furkids are in my living room with there crates, and at night they are all trained to go in right around 9pm so with molly she just caught right on with them, and during the day they all nap with me on the couch:rolleyes: yup all 4 have there special spot, he will do better when he is older, I also stop all drinks after 7pm, good luck to you:) |

Coby (5 months) doesn't nap much during the day and hasn't ever - oh some days I wish he would unless I put him to bed. He has a lot of energy. Like you, the only way to get a nap is to cover the kennel so he's not "missing something". Are you taking walks? Coby will nap if he gets a good walk. They are like kids, if they get that "walking tired" like a toddler, they can get a little squirrely. They act like they've had a big bowl of sugar. Walking might help either the day naps or the nighttime sleeping. I know that it's frustrating. I'm waiting to leave puppy-dom to get more daytime naps. My 10 year old Shi Tzu sleeps about 23 hours a day. ;) Didn't you say in another post you were getting ready to go back to school? Will he be in a kennel or pen while you're gone? |
Well, right now Uno has a 4 panel playpen (pet yard xt). His breeder first told me she wanted food and water available to him for 3 weeks, at all times...Well, we went to the vet, and he's getting a bit pudgy she said. So, we are now feeding him 3 times a day (1/8th a cup...whatever he doesn't finish goes to the next feeding) and as of yesterday I started pulling food/water by 8pm. He went to bed at 11 lastnight and woke up at 5am to pee. Tonight i'm supposed to start dog sitting a cocker spaniel until tuesday night....yikes. A baby yorkie and a cocker spaniel...Not sure how this will turn out. As for walks, we have tried walking daily since Monday. He didn't get a walk yesterday because it rained all day. He walked for my mom tonight, but he is horrible on the leash with me:( He doesn't go very far, down the street usually is enough for him then he wants to turn around and come home. Babysteps, right? On the positive side he learned "sit" today.... |
Depends on the puppy, and how active they are. Aubrey usually naps when I am gone, or when I am napping, but at 7 am... he's ready to play. :eek: |

If you can start with the "sit" you have his attention and then you can start working on other things. Coby started out with that "walk to the corner and then sit on your butt" thing at the very beginning. The first few times we carried him over that magic line and then let him walk back. It's easier to learn to walk on a leash when you're walking, rather than sitting getting drug along. It didn't last too long. Sounds like you're doing really well. And yes, it is babysteps!! |
