how small is too small
 
I have a three pound yorkie named Cookie. She is a small dog with a big dog syndrome. I am having the hardest time housebreaking her. She does good if I take her out frequently but sometimes she will go out and use the bathroom and come right back inside and do it. I dont gripe about it too much because everything is very small (small piddles of pee and turds (lol)). How would you go about housebreaking her. Yes she is crated but she will even do it in there if left alone. I think she does it out of spite. lol.. What do you think?

Cute name, by the way.
Housebreaking takes a long time.
My 11 month is having accidents a lot after her spay surgery.
But like you said, their business is so small I can tolerate it.
But I want her to be more like 98% accurate in case we go to other people's place.
As for doing business in crate, unfortunately you just have to keep eye on them and take them out before Cookie does her business in there....

Housebreaking took me almost 4 months with Aubrey. I learned the hard way, I started taking him out about every couple hours, then I noticed that taking him outside was a waste of time, since hes peeing in the house more. Then I took him out about every 30 mins, and kept a close eye on him, and by doing that for about a month, hes fine now:)! Good luck. You can also check out the training forum theres lots of good info in there.

I have the same problem with Lily who is very small due to MVD, hydrocephalus, and dwarfism. Her problem is the grass. If the grass gets higher than a couple of inches, then it is too high for her tastes and she refuses to go potty outside. She seems to have some kind of aversion to the grass, or anything for that matter, touching her belly. I have to have a special area in the yard that I keep mowed very short just for her. I leave a pee pad by the door for her to use when the grass is not to her liking.

As far as going to the bathroom in the crate goes, it is probably too big to be effective for housebreaking purposes. It should be just big enough for her to turn around in.

the crate is about as small as they come. lol... she is just so tiny
