I have collars for style and labeling and Puppia harnesses for walking. My dogs don't mind either, so it's not a big deal. I guess you will have to see how yours reacts to collar and/or harness. But, DEFINITELY use a harness for walking!!! |

Alphy has a collar but I rarely use it. I walk him on his harness. I have his tags on a detachable thing I got that just clips to his harness. I can unclip it and clip it onto whatever I want without any hassle. |
Collar Stuck In Her Mouth Twice I am so scared to use anoter collar on sasha shes had me in a state of panic twice already I put a collar on her not loose or tight i thought the fit was fine and then i saw her on my bed with the collar wrapped around her teeth and she could not free herself i had to cut it off this happened twice thank god i was home both times. now sasha does not wear one unless we are out for walks. i am not comfortable with her not having the tags on her, what are some suggestions? I always had large dogs in the past and never had this problem. |
My babies do not wear collars - only harnesses for walking. My babies are with me 24/7 (of course I do have to leave them at times to run errands, go to the grocery store, or whatever...) but they are ALWAYS inside - so there is honestly no need for them to have a collar with tags on. But a harness for walking, YES - always! |
I used to use a collar just to hold the dog tag. and then a harness when I walk the dogs. Now, the dogs never really leave my sight, so I just use my dog harnesses. |
Jerking on the neck........disturbing... We use a harness on our little 5 lb. yorkies, their necks are too delicate for a collar... By the way, my husband just came home from a local famous name pet store and told me the story of a woman just "yanking her yorkie around" who was wearing a collar, he was about 11 lbs. He told her thats going to hurt his delicate neck area and to stop doing it, and she told him to " MIND HIS OWN BUSINESS"... This was so upsetting to the both of us. Why are people so cruel to their animals. I wish iwas there, I would have waited to take her number plate and turned her into the local MSPCA. We're still so shaken up by this incident. Have others experienced this also ? Lacey & Lindseys Mom |
harness and collar I use a harness when taking Sargie out - just a collar was really rough on the trachea. He always has the collar on in the house - then the tags jingle when he's underfoot and I don't accidentally step on him - he is always sneaking up! |

Now I think it is all about opinion. I think a harness and a collar could both be dangerous, but I can hear Barneys tags on his collar and so can my guest so I am sure it has saved him from being stepped on. We have and use all 3, a collar, leash, and harness. We did the same for Odie and it worked well for us and our dogs. |
We only use harnesses. |

I"ve never used a collar only a harness. |
Mine does. He uses a collar from the moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to sleep with me. That is were his id tags and all other stuff are on. But when we go out for a walk or to the park he wears a harness to attach the leash but he still has his collar on. When he hears the bells on his collar rattle in the morning he runs to me and sits so that I may put it on. I've done this since I got him but when he sees the harness that's when he knows he's going outside. I don't like collars to attach leash as he pulls and it could hurt his neck. |
I use both. I keep a collar with tags on Duffy at all times. The sound of the tags helps me to know where he is in the house when he is running around. The harness to walk outside and to hook him into his car seat. |

Bella wears a collar with a bell all the time (this way we know where she is and she won't get stepped on or tripped over) but when on a leash I use her harness. |
