Pregnant :D I just found out I'm pregnant, very happy here! :D My husband and I were talking and thinking. When the new baby comes, we don't want Eury to be jealous or upset. We plan on spending as much time with her as we can, etc. Has anyone else here gone through this? Are there any tips you can recommend? THANK YOU! |

Congratulations, and may your baby bring you years of happiness. |
First of all CONGRATULATIONS :) My sister just had her first baby in April and her yorkie Bogey will be turning 4 in December. She was worried that he would be jealous, but he's actually been really great :) He's very protective of his little sister and has to check everyone out before they can hold her or be near her. He sleeps in bed with them and when the baby was first born he would get up and sleep in her room while she was being fed, but now he just stays in bed. My sister made sure that before they brought her home to take a blanket that the baby used in the hospital home to Bogey first so he could smell it. Now, my mom has two Yorkies, Max doesn't really seem to notice that the baby is around he'll smell her and her things but isn't really interested. Mazie on the other hand is very jealous and whenever the baby is over, which is at least 3 times a week, she will sit on the opposite end of the couch and pout. Lucy, who is 4 months, who was actually born 10 days before Brooke, is very curious about her, last night he jumped into her car seat with her and licked her all over. It's funny how dogs can sense a baby and know how to be gentle, because she always is very calm and gives Brooke kisses even though she could be nipping at us moments before. Good Luck :) |
i've also heard the blanket thing. you could get a doll and start carrying the "baby" around with you, cooing, and letting your current "kid" know that when the "baby" is in your arms they cannot be in your lap, etc. if you don't want them going into the baby's room, now might be a good time to start that training. since we have some curious pups, they might want to go see what the noise is all about! (put a tape of a crying baby in there...) how exciting for you to make these changes and bring a wonderful new person into your lives!! |
Thank you for the great advice! We will definitely do the blanket thing so Eury can get used to the baby smell. We are in the process of moving to a larger apartment so I definitely plan to keep the baby's room off-limits unless I'm there. Eury is very sweet and never shows agression even to other dogs so I think that if we just make sure to give her lots of love and I give her the special cuddle time she loves then she'll be ok. As for a second Yorkie, unfortunately with 3 cats and Eury and now a baby on the way, a second Yorkie is just not possible... as it is I'll have my hands full. LOL Besides Eury plays with the cats as if they were puppies anyways LOL. Thank you again for all the well wishes! |
