What are some good treats for puppies? We have been using Wellness Pure Rewards Chicken and Lamb Jerky. But I think my pup is starting to get sick of it. There is a pet specialty store nearby that makes homemade biscuits and such, but I think he's too young for those. Are there any other good quality treats that anyone would recommend for a puppy? |
I give freeze dried liver treats, pupcorn, pupperoni, cheerios, cubed cheese and baby carrots |
Bengi likes pupperoni, but I only give him small pieces when he goes potty. I heard a lot about cheerios but never got them; the other day I got a box and he loves it; he loves crunchy stuff, so that way he can get something healthy and I can avoid giving him a piece of a chip or cracker. |
We give Tatum yogurt drops for potty trips but I have trained her to do many things by using Cheerios. They are so small and not fattening. You can give quite a few which works when training. We give our Aust. Shepherd the Science Diet teeth formula food (can't remember which abbreviation it is) as treats. It's specifically for cleaning teeth and maintaining good oral hygiene but we only give it as treats. Tatum loves them too but they're kinda big so usually only the bigger dog gets them. |
I give Roxy Cheerios and baby raw carrots. She loves both and knows what carrot means when I say it. She runs to the refrigerator and waits for me. Cheerios work great for training. |
Cheerios, carrots, apples(peeled and cut into small pieces), seedless watermelon, etc. |
Boobah loves carrots Quote:
I only give her a couple of carrots mixed with her kibbles, she's very fussy with her food, sometimes I get concerned that she might get malnourished if she doesnt eat what I give her. Ive tried several foods. yet, she zooms through the rooms of the house like someone was chasing her!:animal-pa |

Lacy also has the Wellness Pure Rewards Chicken and Lamb for treats. I would like to get her the venison and salmon formula as well. She really loves these treats. I'm not sure if you are saying your dog is getting tired of the treats or they are making it sick - but if they are making your puppy sick you may be giving too many. I usually just give Lacy a couple a day. She also really likes freezedried liver and chicken breast. She is on a raw diet so I only very rarely give her treats with grain in it (like cookies) so we try to stick to meat and veggie treats. |

Where can I get the freezedried liver and chicken? |
Gizmo likes three kinds of treats and that's pretty much it! We trade off so he doesn't get tired of any one. He will be five months old on the 9th. (OMG!! That's day after tomorrow! lol) -Yorkie Yummies (Chattiesmom) is a tiny treat that is GREAT for a training reward -Cafe Max treats (Bren) will make very small sized treats (potty reward) He likes all of them, but prefers the ones with yogurt icing like the iced cinnabones -Yogurt drops (Petsmart) but these have vitamins in them so you can only give a few a day |
We have to rotate treats a lot. Coby gets tired of the same treats. So we find several things that he likes (and that's good for him) and then rotate through them when we go to the pet store. And we give carrots (tonight he had a grape), cheerios, etc. |
Grapes are a big NO NO!! (as per the post above me)-something in them that is toxic-please read the health section- I switch up treats alot so she doesn't get bored. Generally, it's Cherrios, Carrots, Yorkie Yummies (from "Chattiesmom"), Bully Sticks, and some penut butter treats. |

Grapes/Raisins: As few as a handful of raisins or grapes can make a dog ill; however, of the 10 cases reported to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), each dog ingested between 9 ounces and 2 pounds of grapes or raisins. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and lethargy. Here's the sticky about dangerous foods for dogs... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43555 |
chattiesmom Cindy makes great healthy treats called Yorkie Yummies as mentioned before they are a great price and tiny so they are great treats. My dogs go bezerk for these she sent me a sample and i had to chase Daisy down after she stole the bag from me lol. i give them 5 thumbs up!!     |
Thanks so much!! In all my life and reading, I had never heard that before and had no reason to think they'd be bad for him. Thanks again!!! |

You can find healthy treats like dried liver and chicken breast at petstores that sell premium foods. I know Pet Supplies Plus has some great treats such as dried salmon, dried chicken breast, dried liver, dried turkey breast, etc. |
Nope, one grape didn't hurt him at all (although I probably annoyed him with my staring at him all last night), but I'm sure glad I stumbled into this thread!! We'll stick to the carrots and the good-for-them pet store treats!! Thanks again you guys!! |
I also found some good organic treats that Wickett just loves. Old Mother Hubbard makes several flavors, his favorite is bacon and cheese. Newman's Own Organics has several flavors too. All have passed the Wickett approval test. It sounds like I'll have to go get a box of Cheerios too. I'm sure Wickett will go nuts over those! |
My yorkies love all fruits (no grapes) & veggies like carrots & snow pea pods! Great treats they love are Buddy Biscuits from Cloud Star - my holistic vet carries them. You can also find them online at www.cloudstar.com They are all natural ingredients They have several flavors including peanut butter that my babies seem to go nuts for. They have these little tiny treats that look like gingerbread men. They also have chewy buddy bisquits & treat trainers |
maggie LIVES for baby carrots! we also feed the mother hubbard treats from petsmart. all of our dogs go nuts for those too. but mostly, we feed baby carrots for treats. how is he doing? i love the avatar pic...he is a doll!!! i love those ears up!! |
Mine love the Bil-Jack liver treats found at Pet Smart....they also love cherios and baby carrots :) |
Treats My puppy has a tender tummy. so I dont give him anything with artificial colors, or preservatives. Paul Newman makes a puppy treat that BOTH of my dogs love.....and they are all natural. |
Cheerios Toby loves Cheerios too!! And Chex Mix.... |
