Eating poop! So my little Nico is eating his poop! This usually happens over night. I guess he poops on the pad in the middle of the night...but when I get up in the morning to walk them, i find the tiniest little piece!? At first I was wondering which pup would poop so little. But then I started to realize that my lil man had really stinky breath! I mean REALLY stinky! :thumbdown So I have put all the clues together and realized that he is eating it! yuck! I have read that some others on here have had the same issue. Any suggestions? :( |
We are experiencing this same problem here. I guess it is called Coprophagia--- I did some searching on here yesterday and found the following link to be helpful: http://perfectpaws.com/copro.html I'm off to get some of the ammunition against this, today! |

THanks for the link! Great information! I try my best to make sure that he doesn't get his hands on any poop. My next solution will be to keep him in his crate (not just the ex-pen) at night. So that he can wait to poop in the morning. But again...thanks for the link! |
My neighbor did this, and I always thought it was because they were hungry, then she told me that you can take them to the vet and they can give them medicine. Great link! |
it's weird that it says some dogs like hot sauce! i think edgar does!! it's a great explaination. thanks for the link! |
Yeah I would also have assumed that maybe a dog wasnt eating enough...but if you know my Nico..he eats! Not only does he eat...but you can see him really enjoy the food...he even lays down at times while eating..lol. I feed him Canidae...so I dont really feel he's malnourished. And treats are always fruits and veggies. Who knows..I think it's just when the poop is there...he goes for it.. I will have to do a better job of not allowing him the access. |
How old is your pup? They usually outgrow the poop eating. I think Chachi was about 4 months when he quit. I just did my best to keep it picked up |
