I can't believe this!!!! Yesterday my husband woke up to find Mindy out of her playpen. We asked both our girls if they took her out and they both said I didn't. I questioned whether my 6 year old took her out while sleep walking. lol Well this morning my hubby gets up to go to work and once again she is out of her playpen. She is only 17 weeks and this is a baby playpen, at least twice the height of her. I don't understand how she is getting out of there????? Have any of you had this happen and if so what was your resolve to the problem? |
Oh-oh, sounds like you have a little climber on your hands:( I haven't had that problem but have heard that others have and have had to put a baby gate over their playpen and/or x-pen to prevent their little ones from getting out. |
Sounds like you've got a jumper/climber! Try putting a "lid" on the playpen-you could use another gate, a screen, or possibly even a bedsheet that you tie down so it makes a little tent. Also, make sure that her crate (or something else) isn't in there that she can stand on top of and jump out. I learned that the hard way once! |

This happened to me. Conner was in the playpen, and my sister who comes to tend to Conner in the afternoon while I am working, discovered Conner out of his playpen. I thought it may have been a fluke so I put him in the playpen the next day, and he was out again! My sister gave me a large cage (that was even bigger than the playpen and it has a top on it). Now he loves it. |
If it is a mesh playpen she can climb up the mesh easily. M daughter's 12wk old Minpin did. He was so tiny it was very hard to believe but my daughter hid in the bathroom and watched him climb up an then jump over with no problem. He fit in my hand at the time. Amazing. Buddy jumped a 4ft baby gate in the kitchen at 15wks. I had to double the gate to keep him in. |
Cody gets out of a baby playpen, he has been doing this since he was a few months old too! he gets either his toes or his nails in the mesh and climbs out! I've caught him doing that. I've tried to put a top on it. The first time I put a blanket, well he pulled it down and climbed out. Then we put a baby gate on top, it worked but he was trying very hard to pull that down too and I was scared he would hurt himself if I left him alone and he pulled it down. So the playpen is put away and we have to leave him he gets put in the kitchen with the baby gates blocking him (that is until he figures out how to climb over those too)! |
Carson did the same thing in his petyard when he was very young.... Finally I bought sheets of plexiglass, drilled holes in the corners and ziptied the sheets to the inside of the pen....he still jumps really high, but his feet can't catch the edges and hold to allow him to climb out... he just slides back down. The problem with him climbing out was that he'd get to the top, then not be able to jump down safely and he fell a couple of times, hitting his head on the laminate flooring! Yikes! I was so worried he'd get a head injury so we took care of it right away. Good luck on finding a solution. the pen I have is available at Petsmart, Petco and Petedge. You can expand it to make it larger and it's fairly easy to fold up to take with you but kind of heavy with plexiglass on it. deb |

Cali never in over a year of being in the playpen when I ran out got out of it. Pixie chewed her way out in a week. At first we couldn't figure out how she was getting out, then we found the smallest hole in the mesh and she was getting out there. |
Logan started jumping out at 13weeks. We just bought a fitted crib sheet & Stretched it over the top & that solved the problem for a while, but then he started plucking the mesh & would make holes & finally got the holes big enough to get out. So we bought an actually puppy playpen, the puppy playpen doesn't have as much mesh on the sides as a baby one. I went to hobby lobby & bought mesh & fastened that over the top & he has been a happy camper ever since. |
I've found that a large (great dane size) crate works well for all my dogs to be in there together. With the expen, 3 of my girls could "scale the wall" LOL |
Rosi use to climb out of her playpen also, could not keep her in it...gave up ! |
Adie was never in a playpen but she climbed the back of the couch one day using her little claws. She can jump and climb with the best of em!:grin2: |
