Help!!! Hi! My yorkie's name is errol. He is one year and nine months old. He's a very sweet dog :littleang He lies beside me and my husband everyday when going to sleep. But up to this time, I am having difficulty in housebreaking him. Are they really difficult to housebreak? Everyday when I woke up in the morning, I always see his pee everywhere inside the house :( I have tried training him using the crate method. It does work though, but not at all times. Sometimes, we go outside but he won't pee. It's a good thing he don't pee on the carpet. I really need to housebreak him because I'm tired of cleaning his pee every morning and it's giving me a headache and I don't want to get angry at him. Please help me :lol tears I would appreciate if someone will give me an advice or suggestions on this problem. Thanks! |
House breaking a Yorkie is very difficult. I would put his water away after 7pm and then get puppy pads (your dog will be attracted to it) put 1 down and watch him when he pee's on it reward him. Also a night you could put a belly band on him. He is 9 mos old so you would want to get him neutered as soon as possible. If not he will be a leg lifter in your house forever. Good Luck. Janie |
It is a difficult time housebreaking a pup...and it can be frustrating... Have you tried putting a belly band on him?.... it may prevent him from peeing until you put him out, but you still have to put him out every couple of hours cause he can only hold it for so long...good luck...:) |
WElcome to YT! House breaking took me about 4 months. ITS NOT EASY!!! I had problems and I asked a million ppl what to do and you HAVE HAVE HAVE to take them out atleast every hour, thats to start out, then you can move it up from there. It won't happen over night. Do you have a book? Have you looked into our training section? There is a lot of helpful hints/ways to help housebreaking your little one. Good luck! |
Thank you!!! Hello again!! :wavey: Thanks a lot guys  I hope all your suggestions will all work for him. Wish me luck! Thanks again  :big_hug: I will let you guys know the result. Bye for now... |
Maybe you're letting him have a little too much freedom at night. How long did you try the crate? While it's hard, try to be consistent with one thing instead of jumping from one idea to another. That's really confusing to Errol. I have tried several different ways of housebreaking, but the thing that I try to do is to make it as impossible as possible to fail. That way, I'm never frustrated (which upsets and confuses the puppy and causes the whole problem to get worse) and my doggies always feel successful. It's hard work, but it you can make yourself stick with it, you will have more than 10 years of wonderful times with your baby without ever worrying about accidents!! Good Luck! |
Yes Diane. He is free to roam around inside the house. I don't want him to be caged. He sleeps on the bed beside me and my husband and that's everyday. He has his own bed though. We've always loved how he snuggle close beside us. I tried the crate since he was three months old and until now he still uses the crate to poo. The crate is placed in the kitchen inside the house left opened all the time. He goes to poo inside the crate and until now he does. It's really good though. But he pees most of the time outside the crate, on the floor beside the each legs of the furnitures and even beside the refrigerator. He does not pee on the bed and even on carpets. I know I should really work hard on it with very much patience. I'll try first what Janie has suggested. Thanks a lot! |
2 Attachment(s) ........Also, when you see him doing peepees or poopoos, say the words "do peepees" "do poopoos" or similar followed by "good boy !" and the phrase you are going to use, again and again until he has stopped. It won't be long until he realises that when you take him outside, and say the phrase, then that is what he is supposed to do. You have to be consistant, and let him out even if he isn't asking...than say the phrase. I never crated my Yorkies....they do take a bit longer to train than larger dogs, but if you ignore the messes, and praise when they do it right - and say your phrase while they do it, then they will soon catch on ! Good Luck - we all get there in the end ! :) ......Welcome to YT ! :animal-pa Debra x x x x |
