to collar or not to collar Just wondering about collars? When we got Zoey the breeder told us not to use a collar everyday because it matts down the yorkie's hair. Then she started hacking everytime I put a collar on and went for a walk so I immediately changed to a open up harness that I put her tag on, but the only time my dogs wear it is when we go somewhere. Do most of you do the same or do you keep a collar on them with thier tags all of the time? |
i use a collar with the name embroidered on it along with the phone number .... I never hook the leash to the collar ... only to a harness .... I recommend the Puppia mesh harness) ... but that is just a personal preference ... |
Lacy wears a collar every day with her tag on it, but I use a harness and leash to walk her. I normally take her collar off at night before I brush her out and put it back on in the morning. |
i don't use a collar at all..he has a harness when we are away from the house and I have his tag on that. |
Never ever walk a yorkie on a collar. They are very prone to collapsing trachea. I don't even leave Wobie's collar on him when he's unattended, for fear that it will catch on something and strangle him. I usually just attatch his tags to his harness, and he wears that pretty much all the time. It doesn't matt his hair at all. |
2 Attachment(s) I never have collars on my three in the house....over here we can't get harnesses small enough, and they can slip out of them, so I have just found a site over with you that does great harnesses. I got them collars from the US as well. :animal-pa Debra x x x x |
I harness Charlie for walking & collar with id when we are outside. I am thinking of duplicating his tags though and place on his harness. Off at night though; he is also chipped, but that is only a safety measure. The first thing I would look for on a dog are their tags with address & telephone number. |
No I do not collar mine at home Only when we go some where and I use there harness only, I had a wierd thing happened to me with collars I came home one day and my dog Buddy had his jaws caught inside the collar. It may have been to loose..But no matter ..Not takeing any more chances.. |
Slade is usually collared when walking just in case he slips out of his harness. If he goes anywhere that he will be in his carrier he is also collared then. Other than that he doesnt' wear a collar around the house. it just seems like it would be a way for him to get hurt. But if he were ever to get out of the house he would have no ID (no once checks for micros. in this area) However, my other 3 dogs have their collars and tags on at all times, just in case they escape. |
I use a breakaway collar with a jingle bell on it while we are in the house. Shhhhhhhhh!! It's a cat collar, but we're not telling Molly that!! :p After almost stepping on her a few times, it helps us keep up with where she is in the house. And since it's a breakway, I don't worry as much about her getting caught on something. I do use a collar and leash for quicky potty trips, but we got there and straight back so there's no pulling. We use a harness for walks. Carla |
