registering with akc? is it that important? this question has been burning in me forever. mocha's parents are akc registered and the home breeder gave me papers (i just have to find it amongst all my junk  ). i plan to have mocha spayed soon and have her has my companion, so i don't have any plans on breeding her or showing her. is it that important to have her akc registered? or am i okay with not registering her? i've heard so many things about registering and not registering, so if i don't have to do it, why go through all of that? i've looked at the akc website a ton of times and can't find the answer i want. i know that if i do register, it benefits all dogs in general with kennel inspections, search and rescue, etc, which would probably be my primary reason for registering. thanks for all your knowledge. |
if you are going to reg her, do it soon or they will fine you if you want to reg her later. if you are not going to breed her or show her, then i don't think that you have to register them. to me, i like registering the babies just for myself |
Registering the pup is the owners choice. If it's important for you to have the papers, then by all means, register your girl. If not, then don't. Each person feels different about the AKC papers...it's purely up to you. |
If your not going to show or breed, then it's really a waste of money. However some people do like to have that rpiece of paper. So it's not necessary, but if it makes you feel better than do it. |
okay, that's what i had originally thought--it being up to the owner's choice. i just wasn't sure, so i thought i'd ask. thanks! |
Pixie's breeder said that it is their birth certificate and really wanted me to register her, so I did. I think it is an individual decision. |
I agree that if you plan to breed or show your dog the AKC papers are important but if you are going to have her spayed I would save your money for something more useful to her than a piece of paper. JMHO but limited registration is also a waste of money. If you want to register her for the sake of saying she is registered there are a lot of less expensive registries out there as well. :aimeeyork :animal-pa |
