Newbie hello and question Hi! I'm Meesh and I have a year and a half yorkie named Kodak. Well, he was my dad's but he was so flea infested I took him to the groomers today and decided Im now in charge of him. So now hes napping on my bed fresh and CLEAN! So HELLO to all! Hes my first Yorkie (but not first dog). Im trying to learn as much as possible but wanted to ask a few questions and hope someone can answer... 1. I put my last dog on the RAW food diet. Do you recommend this for yorkies also? Being as hes really tiny, what type of meat do you recommend? Chicken wings? 2. I saw a lot of posts on harnesses. Do you recommend harnesses over regular collars? Or do you use both? 3. Any recommended vets in the los angeles area? Thanks everyone! |
Hello and Welcome! Oh! Congratulations on your yorkie baby. First, let me say you will find a lot of helpful and friendly people here. Glad you're here. As for the raw food diet, I feed mine deli sliced chicken and turkey with diced cooked carrots and sometimes cottage cheese. There is a section on YorkieTalk for Yorkie diets, you might read through there to see what info might be helpful to you. People with toy breed dogs do use harnesses over collars because toy breeds have weak treacheas (I hope I spelled that right.) With the harness, the resistance is distributed equally over the upper body and not just the throat. Sorry, I can't help with the vet. I live in Tennessee. Again, welcome and good luck. Yorkease |
I heard the raw diet is good, but don't know a whole lot about it. I'd never put a collar on my furbabies, because it can seriously hurt them, and being from Florida I can't help with a vet, but there's a lot of people on here that will be able to help you with that. |
I hear the raw diet is supposed to be good, and I use a harness the collpased trachea thing for small dogs, also it you have to pick him up quickly, the harness is the only way to go. |
HI! Welcome to YT!! I am sure that you will be able to find LOTS of answers here!! I feed regular kibble dog food. Chicken wings??? ..... just make sure they are de-boned!!! (my neighbor had a dog die to to bones) |
Hi and welcome! I feed dry kibble as well. (Innova brand) I have heard good things about a raw diet though. Do a search for raw or BARF (I think?) I was going to say the same thing about the chicken bones...watch out for those. I've heard they splinter. It sounds like your doggie is lucky to have you! :D |
Welcome! We feed Nutro supplemented with a raw food called "Steve's Real Food" from our holistic groomer. Also, definitely go with the harness for walking. We're trying out a Sensation harness that works on the principles uses for reining horses. I'm having trouble knowing that I have it fitting right, but it's definitely helping with the pulling when walking. My husband finally watched a Dog Whisperer show and is RE-learning how to walk a dog! I'm so proud of both of them! :welcome4: |
Welcome to the board! You'll learn a lot here and find it is addictive. |
