Do u chase your dog?? Does anyone else have to chase their dog to hold it? Zoey is 5 months old and still wont come to her name unless you are holding a cookie. We are at a loss. I know I give more kisses than Zoey would like...but I never scold her or anything when I am holding her.She will sit and lay down for a "treat" but she runs when I go to pick her up? Is it just mine?? |
She's a puppy! She wants to run around! :) She'll probably calm down and cuddle up more when she gets a bit older. Enjoy her a wild and crazy puppy while you can! |
with the attitude mine has, you dont get to hold her unless it is her idea.. haha |
mine will come to me and turn around for me to pick them up |
Hoku 'tolerates' being loved on but Kalani is always at my feet waiting to be picked up:) Maybe yours thinks it's a game to have you chase her down - these puppies do LOVE to play games - LOL! |
You're definately NOT ALONE!!! My Tobi only "comes" to me when I have a treat in my hand or he thinks I have a treat in my hand. I know we have to work on that with him..but he's around your fur babys age too (5 months). When I talked to our trainer about this dilemma, she said that we have to practice with them when they are on a leash somewhere with distractions (like at a park). The trainer also said try using a longer leash (maybe tie two together) and use that as practice so that they'll become more voice controlled. I hope this helps! |
i chase mocha down when i have to pick her up to go inside. she loves the outdoors. otherwise, she only comes willingly (without a treat) into my arms if she's afraid of something or embarrassed. |
Puppies are just a bundle of energy, and can't sit still for more then a second. |
Peaches was like that as well when she was a puppy... it had me worried also,. But she grew out of it and is a little love bug... She will play when I provoke her to play but when I want lovins she is all about it. :D |
Cali is trained to turn around when I say Momma pick you up, but Pixie I have to chase down. |
I'm working on "Come" command. I have 2 version for Momiji, one is "come" and this is when I'm serious and I ALWAYS have treat with me. Hoping that the word "come" associate with pleasant memory. The other word I use is "Oide" which is "come' in Japanese. This one I use a lot. Most of the time, she think I'm playing so she comes to me close but not close enough to catch her. But if I add the word "kire-kire" it means brushing time (in baby language, or maybe my language, I don't know...) then she knows what it means and she doesn't like it... She will come but it will take about 5 minutes for her to actually be on my lap!!! LOL She takes a lot of detour.... But she knows that she doesn't have a choice but come to me when I have to brush her. |
Wobie does this too. He'll beg for attention, and when you reach down to pick him up...he'll jump or run out of reach! Grrr! :D I don't chase him though, because I don't want him to think its any more of a game than he already does. |
Molly is almost 5 mos and has been doing this lately. I've taken to leaving her harness and leash on her. She's a little easier to catch that way. I can at least step on the leash as she whizzes by. It may jerk her feet out from under her...but she stops. Then I make her sit, tell her good girl and pick her up. I'm hoping it's truly a puppy stage. I want a cuddly puppy!! Carla |
They're terriers, so the more you chase them, the more they love it! It's like a game to them:laugh: Make your baby come to you;) |
Jake is very cuddly and affectionate most of the time, but he has moments when he just wants to play. Some puppies don't like being cuddled unless it's on their terms, they're too busy running around and playing lol Edited to add: Maybe Zoey thinks the chasing is a game? |
