My Baby Had Surgery/luxating Patella I took Ginger home today she had surgery MEDIAL PATELLAR LUXATION, BILATERAL KNEE. She stayed in the hospital for 2 nights. So far, she is doing ok, her incision looks good except for I think some razor burns closed to her peri-anal area and tails. Anyone of you had experience their baby having these kind of surgery? I need some opinions on the recovery period. On how long will she be confined in the cage. Per the discharged instructions, it says there, she needs to be in a confined area for 30 days. I want to know how your baby does after the surgery. |
I can't answer your questions yet as my Gracie has not had her surgery yet. I do wish your baby a fast and comfortable recovery! |
So glad to hear Ginger is home! If your surgeon said 30 days of confinement, that's not bad. Mine were 8 weeks of confinement but they also had the tibial head cut and pinned. As far as the razor burn we used an aloe gel. Just make sure it's NOWHERE near the incision. Hope Ginger continues to do well...Good Luck! |
So sorry to hear about your little furbaby having to have the surgery. Wishing her a speedy recovery. I've not had any experience with this problem. Licks from Toby and Kallie! |

Misty was not the most active of dogs, and there were no restrictions on her. In fact, I even had to start physical therapy on her right away. They really emphasized how essential it was that I do the P/T with her three times a day. Our surgeon and his staff wanted her using the leg as soon as possible. She did need a lot of pain control for about 10 days. Yet, I hear of other surgeons that want the dog restricted for a few weeks. Sandy |
