How old is normal?? i hope this isnt a weird question  BUT....... How old is a male yorkie suppose to be when his testicles drop?? or how old were your male yorkies when theirs dropped? |
Linus is 4 months and his are definately there, and very noticeable. But I have no idea when they dropped. I'm not sure that really helps though. |
I believe that they drop pretty early. I know I got Teddy at 9 weeks and at that point they weren't obvious to the eye, but about 1 month later only 1 dropped and now when he started losing his teeth the past few weeks the other one dropped. He is 2 weeks shy of being 6 months old. Today due to how scent conscious he has become recently he is being neutered. Poor Little Guy....I hope he forgives me! |
males Many times they are there, but the male retracks them..I like them there by 12 weeks or at least feel them from time to time. |

Scamp is 12 weeks old,you can see they are there, but havent dropped  What does dropped mean?? run boy hahaha  |
I posted this in another thread but just in case you missed it. My dog has retained testicles - what does this mean? During fetal development or shortly after birth, the testicles will descend into the scrotal sac. In some dogs, likely due to a genetic predisposition, the testicles may not descend into the scrotal sac. These dogs are known as either unilateral (one testicle) or bilateral (both testicles) cryptorchids. The testicle may be retained in the abdomen or anywhere between the abdominal cavity and the external sac. Retained testicles do not usually produce sperm, but they will produce hormones, which can lead to any of the behavioral changes or medical problems previously discussed. In fact, some studies have shown that retained testicles may be more prone to developing cancer. At the very least, it would be extremely difficult to determine if a testicle which is located in the abdomen, begins to develop cancer, since it cannot be palpated. All dogs with retained testicles should be neutered for medical and behavioral reasons, and to ensure that this genetic abnormality is not perpetuated. |
im just afraid that he will have to have the surgery where they have to go in there and "look" for them. They are defiantely not there, feeling or seeing. LoL |
testicules Scamps mom..if you can see them, then they are where they are suppose to be. When they retract them..cold, scared whatever..they are not in the scrotum..but you say you can see them, so they are in place. |
Rileys dropped before we got him at 8 weeks. TJ is 3 months and one of his still hasn't dropped. The vet said they are really small too. According to my vet, if it hasn't dropped yet, it's not a big problem until you get them neutered. If you go to get them neutered and there is only one, thy have to go looking for the other one. |
I'm not sure but I think I read something that said you should see them by the time they are 4 mos. They can be retracted for many reasons as Yorkierose said but they should be see-able now and then. I have a question..... Mr. Big's testicles have dropped but they seem small, even considering he's a small dog, 3.4#. Does anyone think that's unusual for a 5 mo dog? Sylvia |
