O.k. I really need some input here! I have not been here for quite some time but I have two yorkies. I have a male that was fixed when he was about 5 months old. He is 14 months old now and I have a female that will be 1 in sept. Well Bella had her first heat about a month ago and I made sure she was kept away from male dogs with the exception of Jack who "got together" with her a few times. I didn't think much about it until Bellas breasts tummy started swelling and she started acting really strange. Well, I took her to the vet today and they say she is pregnant! The vet said there is no way Jack could have gotten her pregnant but she hasn't been with any other dogs. Does anyone have any ideas??????? Thanks in advance,

That's odd! Are they SURE that it's a real pregnancy. There's something called "false pregnancy" where the female will get all the symptoms of pregnancy but no babies.

If she's truly pregnant, I'd be looking up the vet that "fixed" Jack:laugh:

If he doesnt have his testicles hes been fixed and there is no way he could have gotten her pregnant

When you say, "got together", do you mean they got stuck??

I took her to the vet today and they did a sonogram and he saw 2 or 3 "spots" in her uterus.

Yes, they were actually stuck together. I just can't figure it out because I don't see any testicles on Jack. Could the spots be something else in her uterus? We are going to do another sonogram in two weeks.

"WOW", I didn't know it was possible for them to get stuck if he was neutered :confused: I guess there is always something new to learn..

I guess time will tell. False pregnancies are quite common, and if you are sure that no other male got near her then I would guess it is a false one.

I believe if they are neutered before they reach their sexual maturity, they will not even try to breed, but if they are past that point when they are neutered, they can "tie" (is the correct term) but nothing will happen because they have no testicles to produce the sperm..

See, I thought they couldn't get "stuck" if they were fixed either. I'm just a little nervous since the vet says he's almost 100 % sure she is pregnant and she is only 4 lbs.

Well, if the vet is almost sure she's pregnant, I'd be hunting down the vet who neutered your male and take him in, along with the puppies and say "ok explain this!"

That is strange. You should be able to tell if he is neutered or not. Take a look down below. :cool:

This is going to sound strange here, If there is still one testicle that was not remove it might happen. if this testicle is up inside him. The reason I know this is because we had a mare (horse) that became pregrant by a gleding and we thought no way, well she drop a baby.

Good point. If that is the case, I would be unhappy with my vet for not realizing that when he neutered the dog.
Also, it puts him at a higher risk for cancer.

crypored i ms that but i have sent a dog to the vet and got him home looked down ... and they didnt do the surgery ...OMG whoopsie the vet said he missed him and didnt relaized it hmm he realized he was payed :rolleyes:

Don't know much about this in dogs, I never really consider it, but in horses if they have one up (testicle) that never drop the vets opp to cut the one that has drop and leave the other in horses this call proud cut. it's consider major surgey if they have to go in and find the other testicle, usually they are sterile, but still high spirted. they think there studs and will actually going through the act of breeding. with no results. thats the only explantion I have for you. but I have never heard this in dogs, but like I said before this mare had a beauty of a baby with a so call fixed horse. needless to say after this they had their own pasture. I knew we was proud cut but never thought he could produce a baby. keep us posted I curious now if this can happen in dogs too.

I'd have Jack checked again. Are you sure she didn't meet up with another male when she was outside?

Thanks for everyones input! I think I will take him and have him rechecked. I have walked and rewalked my fence and there are no spots where another dog could get in.

Should I be worried about tumors or anything? Could they be mistaken for puppies? This is just so strange to me!

Did you leave her outside unattended at all? If so another male probably got to her. You may not see any spots a male could have gotten in, but you wouldn't believe all the things males will do to get to a female in heat. They can smell a female in heat miles away, can get under the smallest holes, jump/climb over the tallest fences, etc. If you left her unattended outside for even 5 minutes while she was in heat, I am positive another dog got to her. (Unless it somehow turns out your male wasn't neutered)

Not to worry you more but if it is possible an unknown male could have gotten to her while she was outside, you don't know what size he is so now the size of the puppies could be a big concern.

Good idea getting your male checked out. Hopefully, it was him.

If you left her outside unattended for even a few minutes she was probably with another male. I have even seen them breed through a fence. (chain link) or climb over a fence to get to a female in heat. Good luck.

I have called a different vet and I am going to take Jack in to have him looked at. We have a 6 ft wooden fence that is flush with the ground all around but I did leave her out there alone with Jack numerous times thinking that shouldn't be a concern. My vet he is going to do another sonogram in 2 weeks and would schedule a c-section since she is only 4 pounds. He said she is just too small to deliver pups normally. This is sooooo frustrating! I thought since I got Jack fixed I would not have to worry about this type of thing.

Out of curiousity, why didn't you spay her as well?

Well, I got him fixed instead of her because he is a little bigger and I thought I would not need to get her fixed as well since they are not around other dogs. I was just concerned about getting her fixed since she is so small. Normally she weighs about 3 lbs 10 oz. Right now she is a little over 4 though.

I spoke to another vet today and he said that even though the first vet saw "spots" in her uterus, that doesn't absolutely mean it is puppies. He said there are other conditions that it could be and I need to bring her in. Her stomach is definately getting larger and firmer. Couldn't that only mean there are puppies????

A male trying to get to a female in heat can do the "impossible". Many males will find a way to get over a 6ft fence or get under it somehow. If you left her out there for even a few minutes unattended, another male most likely got to her.
