Frustrated with Apartments Our new puppy, Jack, is coming home in a few days and I went to pay his deposit today at my apartment complex. My boyfriend and I live in the same apartment complex, but in different apartments. He came with me to pay the deposit and the lady asked me which apartment he would be living in. I said mine primarily but not really thinking I said and also spending a lot of time at the boyfriends. Well, now they want us to pay two pet deposits of 250 for each apartment. I really don't think this is fair because at the complex if you have one dog in your apartment its 250 and 50 for each additional dog, so why would we pay 500 for one dog? Has anyone ever dealt with crazy apartment people like this, and if so, do you have any advice for me? Thanks |

i know that my old apartment complex charge a $200 pet deposit, plus $50 for each additional pet (up to 2 pets per resident). my roommate had already paid the deposit for her pets before i got mocha and we both thought it would be ridiculous to pay another $200 just for mocha. i had told her i would pay her some of the deposit for her since we were flying under the radar with mocha, but she wouldn't take it. :rolleyes: i had mocha for 10 months out of our 12 month lease and was never caught. i would say since you already paid the deposit for your apartment, that's all you should pay. is your apartment complex pet friendly, meaning that if you have guests over they can bring their pets over too? ours did, and it was really hard to tell if they were mine or my guests. i hope it works out for you. |
my boyfriend and i also lived in the same apartment complex but in different buildings. he didn't pay a deposit. i always brought mocha over and there were times where she even lived there (when i couldn't watch her, when i went home on a weekend, etc.) we never got caught doing that either. ;) |
I would just let them know that because of the additional $250. for your boyfriend, that you will not be bringing the puppy over to his place at all. That your puppy will strictly be a "one apartment" dog and leave it at that. They cannot force your boyfriend to pay the fee if it's not his dog. Then I would just do what you want and DON'T GET CAUGHT! |

I think I am just going to tell them he will stay only in my apartment. I hate lying to them but they've really left me no choice. The complex is supposedly very pet friendly, it even has a designated dog area with lots of grass and bags to pick up poop. haha |

i live in apartment complex and i had to pay $250.00 pet deposit, have renters insurance to cover medical cost if cody did anything to anyone, and he had to have his rabie shot, and copys of shots. we were allowed to have company with their dogs. but now they changed the rule. if you dont own a a dog and you have company that comes over and you babysit or whatever you have to pay the deposit. i think thats stupid. cause their not your dog just watching it or visiting. living in apartments totally sucks |
Get out the rules and regulations that they gave you to sigh when you moved in and see if it says deposit is 250. for shared dog. |
That's not fair. I would go back and tell them that you don't want to pay two separate deposits for the SAME dog, and that you won't be taking him to your boyfriend's apt. Then, just be careful when you take him over there. |
Go back and tell them he is YOUR dog and you will pay the deposit for YOUR apartment. Don't let them bully you. You are young so they think then can bluff you. Stand up to them. Tell them you and boyfriend had a fight and you are no longer together. Tell them you will give your notice. Believe me they don't want you to move. Quote:
